“I promise you”- Struggling Tottenham star backed to break into ‘elite’ bracket; quality starting to show

Tottenham Hotspur is the right club for Xavi Simons as he continues his development

While Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha have made an immediate impact at Tottenham since joining in the summer, one of the club’s marquee signings is still yet to find his rhythm at N17. Highly rated attacker Xavi Simons is still adjusting to life under Thomas Frank after a relatively slow start to his time in North London. The Dutchman has looked somewhat out of place during the opening weeks of the season.

It is important to point out that Simons was initially deployed on the left flank during the early matches of the campaign. Through no real fault of his own, the 22-year-old struggled to influence the game from wide positions. He found it difficult to beat defenders, create chances, or link up effectively with the forward line.

Xavi Simons needs some time to get back to his best at Tottenham.

However, his performances have shown clear improvement since being moved into his natural #10 role. Simons has been able to drop into pockets of space and link the midfield with the attack more fluidly. Yet his lack of goals or assists has led to criticism from some areas of the media, and the disappointing performance against Chelsea only intensified the scrutiny surrounding him.

Xavi Simons proved his point against Copenhagen in the Champions League

There were several positives to take from Tottenham’s convincing win over Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday night. While Micky van de Ven’s sensational solo goal understandably stole the spotlight, Simons’ performance also deserved recognition. The young midfielder looked more confident, composed and purposeful on the ball, registering an assist for the second goal of the game.

Journalist Mitch Fretton believes Simons will only grow stronger from here and develop into one of Tottenham’s standout players. Taking to X, Fretton said,

“Invest in your Xavi Simons stocks because I promise you, he’s going to be an elite player for Tottenham.”

If Simons can build on his display against Copenhagen in the upcoming fixtures, it may only be a matter of time before he becomes one of the main talking points at Tottenham for all the right reasons. The main challenge for the Dutchman remains adapting to the physical and fast-paced nature of the Premier League, where players have less time on the ball. He has been outmuscled on several occasions, exposing a weakness he must address.

However, it is worth remembering that the Spurs No.7 still has plenty of time to develop and refine his game. Simons undeniably possesses exceptional talent. What he needs now is rhythm, confidence, and consistency to prove exactly why Tottenham were willing to invest heavily in bringing him to North London.
