Inter Milan greenlights potential Tottenham switch; ready for Premier League challenge

Yann Bisseck wants to test himself in the Premier League as Tottenham Hotspur circle

After a string of disappointing results in recent weeks, Tottenham responded in the ideal manner by extending their unbeaten run in the Champions League on Tuesday night. The Lilywhites secured a 4-0 victory over Copenhagen, with Brennan Johnson, Wilson Odobert, Micky van de Ven and Joao Palhinha all on the scoresheet. The win also strengthened Tottenham’s position in the top half of their Champions League group.

Micky van de Ven’s stunning solo effort was the standout moment of the match. The Dutchman ran the length of the pitch, gliding past defenders before finishing with composure to make it 3-0. Thomas Frank even jokingly compared the centre-back to Lionel Messi, praising the 24-year-old’s remarkable athleticism and confidence.

Alongside the attacking display, Tottenham also managed to keep a clean sheet despite being reduced to ten men in the second half. Cristian Romero and Van de Ven were instrumental at both ends of the pitch, contributing significantly to securing the three points. The concern among supporters, however, is the noticeable drop in quality when either of the two is absent, highlighting a clear area that needs addressing in the January transfer window.

Tottenham could end up landing Inter centre-back Yann Bisseck in the winter

Tottenham need to prioritise adding depth in central defence if they are to close the gap on their rivals during the second half of the season. Romero and Van de Ven require rotation to maintain their fitness, but the current backup options have struggled to match their level of performance.

This is precisely why Spurs are targeting a new centre-back in the coming months. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Tottenham are pushing to sign Inter Milan defender Yann Bisseck in January. The Germany international, who has one senior cap, is reportedly eager to test himself in the Premier League after falling down the pecking order under Christian Chivu, and a move to North London appeals to him.

Tottenham attempted to sign Bisseck in the summer as part of their efforts to strengthen the defensive unit. However, a deal did not materialise, largely due to Spurs being unwilling to meet Inter’s €40 million valuation. Bisseck also expressed a desire at the time to compete for his place at Inter during the first half of the campaign.

There is little doubt that Bisseck would improve the defensive options at Tottenham if a move goes through. The German defender is comfortable in possession, strong in duels and capable of progressing the ball from the back. His profile suits Thomas Frank’s system, which relies heavily on defenders who can initiate and support attacking phases of play. If Spurs wish to maintain their positive trajectory this season, signing the 24-year-old should be a priority.

Will Tottenham show the same intention in the winter and sign the prolific centre-back? Only time will tell.
