Mauricio Pochettino wants to manage in the Premier League once again after his tenure with the USMNT ends
Tottenham defied all expectations last season by winning the Europa League and ending their 17-year wait for major silverware. Credit goes to Ange Postecoglou, who stayed true to his promise of delivering a trophy in his second season at the club, while also securing Champions League qualification. The triumph marked the first European trophy to return to N17 in 41 years.
However, the success in Europe was not enough to save Postecoglou from dismissal. Tottenham’s poor league form and their 17th-place finish in the Premier League ultimately led to his departure just days after the final. The club then appointed former Brentford manager Thomas Frank as his successor.

Looking back, it appears the Spurs hierarchy made the right decision. Frank has made a strong start to the new campaign, winning eight of his first 15 matches across all competitions. However, he was not the only candidate under consideration, as Tottenham explored several managerial options before finalising their choice.
Mauricio Pochettino aiming for Premier League return if Tottenham door opens
Tottenham fan favourite Mauricio Pochettino was on the verge of returning to N17 in the summer after Ange Postecoglou was relieved of his duties. Former club chairman Daniel Levy had contacted the Argentine tactician about a possible return as soon as it became clear that the managerial position would be vacant in the summer. Not only that, the Lilywhites had also identified him as a top target before Frank came into consideration.
Now, the current USMNT head coach has opened the door to a Premier League return in the future should the Tottenham job become available again. Speaking to talkSPORT’s Ben Jacobs, Pochettino said,
“We were so close with Tottenham to winning the Premier League and the Champions League. We wanted to win the Premier League and the Champions League because Tottenham is a club that deserves these types of titles, these types of trophies. And yes, why not one day come back to the Premier League.”
Pochettino has claimed that he still has unfinished business in the Premier League after coming close with Tottenham to winning the Premier League and Champions League during his first stint at N17. The Argentine tactician has not ruled out a move back to England in the future, but has made it clear that his priority for now is leading the USMNT to the World Cup next summer.
These comments may add an additional layer of pressure on Thomas Frank in his debut season at the club. The Danish manager clearly possesses the qualities to succeed in North London, but the responsibility now lies with him to maximise the squad’s potential and push Tottenham towards competing consistently for major honours.
Whether Frank will carve out his own legacy at Tottenham remains to be seen. But if he falls short, it is evident that Mauricio Pochettino will be waiting in the wings for another opportunity to return.
