Chelsea open talks to sign serial South American winner on Tottenham Hotspur radar

Chelsea have entered talks to sign Tottenham target and Real Madrid attacker Rodrygo

Tottenham Hotspur have watched the recent developments around Rodrygo with keen interest, especially as Chelsea have now made direct contact with Real Madrid regarding the Brazilian forward.

CaughtOffside reported that Chelsea opened discussions and showed strong interest in arranging a deal either in January or during the summer window. The report explained that the London club communicated directly with Real Madrid and made it clear what they wanted.

This move has stood out because Tottenham previously held a strong interest in Rodrygo, and their recruitment team monitored him as a potential attacking option. However, things seem to be shifting.

Chelsea’s approach signals that they are prepared to act quickly, while Tottenham must now decide whether to step up their efforts or pursue other targets. Rodrygo has played significant minutes for Real Madrid and has been a serial championship winner, though the club has added more competition in attacking areas. That development has fuelled speculation that the player might consider a new challenge, particularly if he wants consistent starts.

Spurs’ interest came from their desire to add pace and finishing on the flanks. However, Chelsea making a move first could change the situation. The next few weeks will decide whether this turns into a bidding contest or if Real Madrid choose to close the door. It’s not just the Brazilian; Chelsea have also officially inquired about Tottenham target Nico Paz.

What Rodrygo would provide Tottenham, and our view on the chances

The Brazilian was one of the most sought-after players in the summer

Rodrygo would fit Thomas Frank’s system at Tottenham because his movement and skill allow him to switch positions across the front line. Frank likes his attackers to press high, combine quickly, and attack space without hesitation, and Rodrygo already plays in a setup at Real Madrid where he presses from the front and links play on the move.

The 24-year-old could play on the left and help with the goals and creativity that people used to associate with Son Heung-min, or he could move to the right and play closer to James Maddison, giving Tottenham another way to get into the box. This flexibility would let Frank change formations during matches rather than rely on simple one-for-one substitutions.

However, Chelsea look like the more likely destination. They can offer a bigger contract, which puts them ahead in talks, and their stronger commercial presence gives them wider attention. A player might be drawn to better financial security and global exposure, even if Tottenham can promise a clearer football plan.
