Tottenham youngster Mikey Moore is happy at Rangers and thriving under new boss Danny Rohl

Tottenham Hotspur’s academy gem Mikey Moore did not have the easiest of starts on loan at Rangers, but under a new manager and in a different position, his fortunes appear seemingly transformed.

The England youth international had a rocky start to life at Rangers, failing to convince former manager Russell Martin for regular game time. Following a poor start to the season, Rangers decided to part ways with Russell Martin at the start of October and replaced him with Danny Rohl.

Tottenham and Thomas Frank regard Mikey Moore very highly and were worried that the youngster was struggling to break into the Gers’ starting XI. They had grown frustrated with his lack of game time and were considering recalling the teenager, given how his situation in Scotland was becoming. However, since Danny Rohl has come in, Moore has thrived.

Moore wants to stay at Rangers

Moore has been given a new position by Rohl at Rangers, one which has seen him burst into life at Rangers. The Tottenham loanee has been playing as an inside forward, and this central role is doing him great favours.

He looked impressive in Rangers’ 2-0 loss to AS Roma in the Europa League last week. Despite the defeat, Moore had a very good night, which demonstrates the confidence that has taken off over recent weeks. The youngster netted his first goal for Rangers in the 3-0 away league win over Dundee and was unlucky not to score a second after VAR denied the initial build-up to the goal as offside.

After the game, Moore opened up on his initial struggles at Rangers and now enjoying his football under the new manager.

“It was a difficult start for me and I don’t think I showed anywhere near what I know I can do,” Moore was quoted by Football London.

“Mentally it’s been unbelievable for me because it’s a massive club and I think it’s strengthened me up a lot because it’s probably the toughest time I’ve been through.

“So now I’m happy to be coming out of it, but now I need to keep on going and performing.”

The youngster has also quashed rumours of being recalled by Tottenham in January.

“I was never ready to go back. I always knew that at some point it would change and I’ve changed it for myself a little bit in the last few weeks, but I need to keep building and playing even better than I am,” he added.

“I’m picking up goals and assists, as I said in midweek that I need to, so I’m happy with the goal on Sunday. I’m feeling a lot more confident, I’m getting used to the league, used to my teammates and the manager’s helped me a lot as well, he’s come in and he’s gave me confidence and belief in myself which has been good from him, so I’m excited to keep going.

“There’s a lot of pressure on a young boy coming from the Premier League, but as long as I’m improving and I’m helping Rangers go win games and picking up goals and helping the team, that’s all that matters for now.”

Tottenham must be delighted with Moore’s situation at Rangers now

The mood has changed at Rangers following Rohl’s arrival. The appointment of the German tactician has revived Moore’s loan spell, with the winger has quickly become a key component of his attack. He has moved into the No.10 role and looks so much better.

The way the England youth international is currently playing at the Ibrox should mightily please the Tottenham bosses. Until the start of last month, they were rightly worried with his situation. Now, the concerns appear to be taking a backseat, especially after Moore expressed his desire to stay and fight at Rangers.
