Tottenham Hotspur are firmly behind Thomas Frank despite the lack of goals and poor home form

Tottenham supporters have begun to voice their irritation over the club’s recent displays at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and journalist Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider reported the growing unrest.

The atmosphere has shifted over the past few weeks, and many fans feel that the lack of goals and a flat approach in home matches shows a side still trying to settle under Thomas Frank. The 2-2 draw with Manchester United on November 9 did little to calm the mood, especially since concerns had already come up after the narrow 1-0 defeat to Chelsea earlier in the month.

What’s the matter?

Tension increased further when Djed Spence and Micky van de Ven seemed to ignore instructions from Frank during that Chelsea match, a moment that hinted at some dissatisfaction inside the dressing room. The issue has become more closely linked to Tottenham’s poor return in front of goal, and Pete O’Rourke on Football Insider pointed to the absence of Solanke as a major reason.

Frank has tried to show patience and gradual improvement, while the club’s league position and Champions League involvement indicate that the situation is not collapsing.

Even so, supporters want more on their home turf. They pay to watch a side that drives the game and puts opponents under pressure, but recent displays have lacked that spark, which explains the growing frustration.

“Still early days in the tenure of Thomas Frank and Tottenham, it will take time for him to get his ideas across, and obviously they are missing the likes of Solanke as well up front.”

“So, they’ve struggled for goals, but obviously they showed that they can get goals from all over the pitch in that midweek Champions League win against Copenhagen.”

“To be fair to Spurs, fifth in the table, have been in the Champions League, it’s not been the worst start to a season.”

“I think there’s still a lot of time for Thomas Frank to improve things, and I’m sure he’ll be looking to improve the goal-scoring output in the team as well.”

Meanwhile, Spurs are active in the transfer market, but they also face significant competition for their targets. Liverpool reportedly look set to make their move for Spurs target Antoine Semenyo, while Chelsea have officially inquired about Tottenham Hotspur target Nico Paz.

How can Tottenham fix their home form?

Tottenham have to address their home form, which has persisted through the 2024/25 season. The North London club has secured just 16 points from 19 league matches over the past year, and that is a pretty poor record.

Under Frank, the team has mainly faced criticism for overly conservative tactics against weaker opponents at home, especially in the midfield, where they have lacked the effectiveness of the pivot and their bravery to advance with the ball.

The team has also depended heavily on full-backs like Pedro Porro to create attacking opportunities, and this has seemingly disconnected the midfield and attack. To fix all these issues, Spurs have to be more proactive and aggressive in the final minutes at home. They have to counter-press higher up the field and take additional risks to move the ball forward rather than playing it safe with sideways passes.

Obviously, they have faced injury issues, but Spurs can’t treat it as an excuse if they need to take their game to the next level. They will definitely get a significant boost when Mohammed Kudus comes back from injury. However, the team has to focus on cohesion, energy, and commitment to a more positive style of play to connect with the frustrated fans at home.
