Fresh injury concern for Tottenham; veteran star pulls out of international duty

Blow for Tottenham Hotspur as Ben Davies pulls out of Wales squad

Tottenham Hotspur’s injury situation continues to go from bad to worse.

Randal Kolo Muani was the latest Spurs player to enter the treatment room, after he suffered a jaw injury against Manchester United at the weekend. The forward collided with defender Harry Maguire and was substituted at half time. The injury was initially deemed to be a minor one, but detailed scans on Sunday confirmed a fracture.

Luckily, Kolo Muani is set to avoid jaw surgery after consulting with a specialist on Monday. However, he still is facing several weeks on the sidelines. In the same game, captain Cristian Romero also came off injured, leading to frustration within the Spurs fanbase. And today, the Lilywhites have suffered another injury setback.

According to a report from Football London, Ben Davies has pulled out of the Wales squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein and North Macedonia.

The Tottenham defender has not played since being injured in his 100th Wales appearance against Belgium in October. Thomas Frank said later the 32-year-old would miss “weeks” with a hamstring problem. Since getting injured in Wales’ 4-2 defeat to Belgium, Ben Davies has missed games for Tottenham against Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Chelsea, FC Copenhagen and Manchester United.

Fans were surprised when the Wales national team had named Davies in their squad for the games against Liechtenstein and North Macedonia, but the recent development means their happiness hasn’t lasted long. The veteran star is yet to make an appearance for Tottenham this season, chiefly due to injury and the fact that Frank has relied on other defensive options when he has been fit.

The Wales international pulling out of Craig Bellamy’s squad is a big shame. This adds to further misery at N17, after Mohammed Kudus did not team up with Ghana due to a knock that resulted in him missing the past two Tottenham games. The Ghanaian winger missed the fixtures against FC Copenhagen and Man United, but Frank remains optimistic that he will be fit to face Arsenal after the international break.

The recent injury troubles have been reminiscent of the Lilywhites’ last year problems that left Ange Postecoglou handicapped in terms of juggling his resources to tackle with the gruelling fixture list. We hope Frank does not have to face anything similar to last year’s troubles and the injury list eases out in the next few weeks, as Tottenham face a taxing schedule post November hiatus.
