Fabio Paratici is thankful for Tottenham Hotspur’s support in difficult times
Fabio Paratici has expressed deep gratitude to Tottenham Hotspur for their unwavering support throughout his 30-month ban, revealing how the club’s leadership ensured he never felt isolated during the darkest period of his career.
According to Get Italian Football News, the Italian sporting director has opened up about his return to N17 and the psychological lifeline Tottenham offered him when others might have cut ties.

The 53-year-old didn’t mince words when describing his experience, as he stated (h/t Get Italian Football News via Sky Sports Insider):
“They truly made me feel at home. I arrived in June 2021, then in November, there was this very, very intense matter.”
“And it’s not easy: you are in a place where they know you only partially, and you fear they might judge you differently. Instead, here they never judged me but always supported and helped me.”
Paratici expressed his gratitude to Tottenham for not showing skepticism. He said:
“There was never a moment where I felt any doubt about me. I have to thank everyone.”
The ban stemmed from his previous tenure at Juventus, where Italian football authorities investigated alleged capital gains irregularities. While Paratici maintains his innocence and accepted a plea bargain in September 2025 to draw a line under years of legal uncertainty, the worldwide ban forced him to step down from his official role in 2023.
But here’s where Tottenham showed their character. Rather than severing ties, the club kept Paratici on as a consultant. He attended matches, influenced signings, and remained a part of the family.
The Philosophy: Director Serves Manager
Beyond gratitude, Paratici also laid out his football philosophy with striking clarity. Speaking about the relationship between sporting directors and managers, the Italian articulated what amounts to professional self-sacrifice. He said:
“I believe blindly in the director-coach relationship. As a director, you almost have to annul your own football ideas to embrace those of the coach you have. My football, today, is that of Thomas Frank.“
It’s a fascinating admission from someone who masterminded Juventus’ unprecedented nine consecutive Serie A titles. Paratici specifically cited his complete alignment with current Tottenham boss Thomas Frank, stressing that the director’s job is to subordinate personal vision to managerial needs.
This isn’t just theory, Paratici’s been quietly putting it into practice. Sources suggest he played an instrumental role in bringing Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, and Radu Dragusin to North London, all while officially on the sidelines.
What This Means for Spurs
Paratici’s official return came in October 2025, when Tottenham announced him as co-Sporting Director following the expiration of his FIFA ban. The timing couldn’t be more critical, with the January window approaching and squad reinforcements needed.
Paratici has played a crucial role in shaping Tottenham’s transfer strategy and improving the squad, leading key signings like Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski, and Destiny Udogie. His expertise in football recruitment and player pathways has strengthened the club’s competitive edge and helped drive Tottenham’s progress on and off the pitch.
