Tottenham starlet Lucas Bergvall leaves the Sweden national team camp early after suffering a setback in his recovery from a concussion
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall has been forced to withdraw from the Sweden national team due to the aftermath of the concussion he suffered against Chelsea.
On November 1, the teenager was forced off the pitch in the sixth minute after a ball was hit fiercely on his head, leading to him being dazed for a few moments. Xavi Simons replaced Lucas Bergvall in the game against Chelsea, and the youngster was subsequently sidelined for the games against FC Copenhagen and Manchester United following a concussion protocol process.
The midfielder was still called up for international duty this November break. However, it seems he is yet to fully heal from his injury.

Lucas Bergvall forced to leave Sweden camp
Earlier this week, Sweden manager Graham Potter explained that Bergvall wasn’t able to take part in full training. Potter hoped that the Spurs starlet would be given the clearance by Thursday, and sounded optimistic over it.
Now, according to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, Bergvall has been forced to leave the national squad and return to Hotspur Way. It is due to the same concussion issue, with Newcastle United’s Emil Krafth replacing the teenage prodigy.
Sweden national team official Stefan Pettersson said on Friday that Bergvall had to be withdrawn after a ‘setback during training’.
“Lucas was of course very disappointed,” Pettersson was quoted by Aftonbladet.
“We had agreed with Tottenham’s doctor to do some tests during the week and then drive at full speed so that Lucas would feel it properly. When there was a reaction, there was no hesitation. We don’t want to take any risks.”

Concerns for Tottenham ahead of the North London derby
Of course, if Bergvall faced a setback during training then it was the perfect decision to exclude him from the Sweden camp and send him back to Tottenham. The north London club’s medical team will take over once he returns. The midfielder’s situation will be concerning for Thomas Frank, especially with the Swede emerging as one of his most important players in the opening three months of the 2025/26 season.
Bergvall now faces a race against time to be passed fit for the north London derby – Spurs’ first game after the international break. He is expected to be under surveillance of our club’s medical team before a further decision is taken over his involvement against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium next weekend.
