“Double his salary”- Tottenham urged ‘double’ star’s wages amid growing prominence under Thomas Frank

Tottenham Hotspur urged to hand Micky van de Ven a lucrative new deal

Prolific centre-back Micky van de Ven has been one of Tottenham’s standout players this season. The Dutchman is finally showcasing his full potential at N17, proving exactly why he is so highly valued by Thomas Frank. He has made significant progress under the Danish manager, demonstrating quality, composure and leadership while forming a formidable partnership with Cristian Romero at the heart of the defence.

With Van de Ven in the side, Spurs look far more composed and resilient at the back. His ability to drive forward and break the opposition press makes him a truly unique asset. He possesses a rare skill set for a centre-back, carrying the ball out from defence with remarkable confidence, something few defenders in the Premier League can replicate. It highlights the 24-year-old’s comfort and quality on the ball.

Tottenham cannot afford to lose Micky van de Ven in the summer.

Van de Ven already has six goals in all competitions this season, making him the club’s outright top scorer. His stunning solo goal against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League was arguably one of the greatest ever scored by a defender in the competition. He surged the length of the pitch with the ball seemingly glued to his feet before slotting past the goalkeeper at the near post. It was a moment of pure brilliance that Tottenham fans will remember for years to come.

Tottenham must find a way to keep Micky van de Ven at the club

His impressive performances have naturally attracted interest from top European clubs. Recent reports suggest Real Madrid are keen to sign the Dutchman next summer, with Xabi Alonso eager to strengthen his defensive options. The interest from the Spanish giants has forced Tottenham to open contract talks with Van de Ven to secure his long-term future.

John Wenham has urged Spurs to offer the defender a significantly improved deal to reflect his rapid development. Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham said,

“I think with his existing deal running until 2029, Spurs are not in a panic situation. However, as he joined from the Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, I imagine he is probably on £60-70,000 per week maximum. So Spurs should reward his rapid progress into one of the best defenders in the Premier League with a new deal and could even double his current salary.”

Wenham believes Spurs have no immediate reason to panic despite the growing transfer links, but insists the club should reward the 24-year-old’s rise with a new contract and a salary that properly reflects his performances.

There is no question that Van de Ven is among the Premier League’s best defenders. His contributions at both ends of the pitch have been crucial in helping Spurs climb to fifth in the table, just four points behind second-placed Manchester City. With Cristian Romero extending his stay at N17 in the summer, Tottenham must now make retaining Van de Ven beyond next season an absolute priority.
