Tottenham target Victor Froholdt has an €85 million release clause in his FC Porto contract
Tottenham have struggled to produce positive results in the Premier League in recent weeks. They have dropped points in four of their last five league matches, resulting into the Lilywhites dropping out of the top four spots.
The ongoing injury crisis at the club has not made things easier for Frank, with several key attacking players sidelined for long periods. Injuries to stars such as James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski have hurt the team’s creativity in the final third. Also, the lack of invention from deeper midfield areas when Joao Palhinha has partnered Rodrigo Bentancur has made Spurs extremely one dimensional.
Clearly, Tottenham needs a box-to-box presence who can maintain the stability in the middle of the park as well as produce goalscoring contributions.

Details of Victor Froholdt’s release clause at FC Porto emerges
Tottenham were reportedly interested in signing Victor Froholdt during the summer transfer window. The youngster was scouted several times by Spurs last season when he was promoted to FC Copenhagen’s first team. However, the north Londoners failed to sign him and the Dane eventually transferred to FC Porto from FC Copenhagen.
Victor Froholdt has continued to catch the attention of Europe’s top clubs with his dazzling displays at FC Porto. Atletico Madrid have shown an interest in the teenager, who has registered two goals and as many assists in 11 league outings. The central midfielder has also put in some classy performances in the Europa League.
As per reports from October, Tottenham have continued to track the progress of the Danish talent. The midfielder’s rise has been so meteoric that FC Porto are wary that they won’t be able to hold onto him for very long. As such, they smartly inserted a release clause when signing him from FC Copenhagen in the summer.
Now, according to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Froholdt has an €85 million release clause in his contract. Atletico Madrid are interested in signing him and view Froholdt as someone with ‘personality, dynamism and scoring ability.’ The La Liga side value his hefty release clause, although they feel with some smart negotiations they can bring the price down and sign him in January.

From Tottenham’s perspective, Froholdt is a profile that aligns perfectly with the club’s transfer recruitment policy. For Frank, who has already reshaped Spurs’ identity in the opening months of the new campaign, the Porto man could be the kind of midfielder who thrives in a system based on pressing, work rate and physicality.
With James Maddison sidelined for the majority of the season with an ACL injury, Tottenham desperately need creativity and attacking thrust from central areas. The Danish talent ticks many of those boxes, making him an appealing option to unlock well-drilled defences.
That said, it will be interesting to see if Tottenham go head to head with Atletico Madrid for Froholdt’s signing in January.
