“He’ll come good”- Tottenham fans urged to show patience with struggling star

Tottenham star Xavi Simons is facing constant criticism for his lack of impact at N17

Tottenham need their star players to raise their levels after dropping points in four of their last five Premier League matches. The Lilywhites are still aiming to close the gap on their rivals under Thomas Frank, which makes it crucial for the senior players to step up as the festive period approaches. So far, several attackers have struggled to find any real rhythm at N17 this season.

Summer signing Xavi Simons is one of the players drawing attention for the wrong reasons following his move from RB Leipzig. The Dutchman has yet to find any real consistency in his performances and has found it difficult to adapt to the pace and physical demands of the Premier League. Jamie O’Hara has even compared him to Manchester United flop Antony, highlighting how little impact he has made so far.

Simons has faced more setbacks than successes since arriving in North London. It is clear that he is still adjusting to the intensity and physicality of English football. His display against Chelsea underlined that he still has a long way to go before becoming a reliable option for Thomas Frank. The Danish manager substituted him in the second half, despite the fact he had only come on earlier as Lucas Bergvall’s replacement.

Xavi Simons needs to step up at Tottenham

Time is running out for Xavi Simons to show his value this season. Although he has offered flashes of his quality, he has not been able to produce consistent end product. This has worried sections of the fanbase, who are beginning to question the 22-year-old’s readiness and his ability to settle at the club.

Joe Cole, however, has defended Simons and urged supporters to remain patient as the youngster continues to adapt to Frank’s system. Speaking on TNT Sports’ Breakdown, Cole said,

“Xavi Simons, when Tottenham pay £70 million for you, you’ve got to do it from the off. And the fans are worried. Listen, I think he’ll come good. But he’s just going to need time. So, you just hope that the fans don’t turn on him.”

Cole admitted he expected more from Simons given Tottenham’s big money investment, but also stressed that patience is important as the Dutchman adjusts to Premier League football. The former Chelsea star believes the attacker will eventually come good, but says he must start putting in meaningful performances over the coming weeks.

All eyes will now be on Simons as he looks to make his mark under Thomas Frank. The highly-rated attacker was brought in to be a key piece of Tottenham’s long-term project, helping them close the gap on their rivals and compete for trophies consistently. For that to happen, the 22-year-old must step up, take responsibility, and show his true quality in the months ahead.
