Tottenham Hotspur Women held Arsenal Women to a 0-0 draw in the women’s edition of the North London Derby

Tottenham Women played an outstanding game at Brisbane Road last weekend as they earned a hard-fought draw against the Gunners Women in a highly anticipated North London derby. It was a game where the hosts showed such resilience and discipline along the two halves as the Lilywhites ladies earned themselves a valuable point in the Women’s Super League.

And Spurs goalkeeper Lize Kop had some key moments which helped them take through a draw. She made some crucial saves to keep a clean sheet against what is a star-studded Arsenal women’s attack.

Lize Kop put in a strong performance vs Arsenal women

Speaking in an interview after the game, the 27-year-old Dutch international went on to speak about the game and how the team has been working hard to build up to performances like the one against Arsenal. She also spoke about how the team showed offensive as well as defensive capabilities to gain themselves a draw. She said (via. Chris Cowlin YouTube channel):

“It feels great. I think we’ve been working really hard as a team to get a result like this and I think it shows a lot of where we’re capable as a team. It’s a great performance.

I think first half we possessed the ball a bit more. I think in the second half we had to be better out of possession, defend the box, and I think we dealt really well with it. We adjusted well and that’s why we get a result like this.”

TTLB Opinion

It was an important point shared for this to maintain their position in the mid-table battle in the WSL. But more importantly, these dropped points for Arsenal mean that they missed a chance to leapfrog above their rivals, and now they are in a tricky position to compete for the top spot in the WSL.

It was a tight game, and this in a way showed how much progress that this women’s team has made at Hotspur Way. The fact that Tottenham women came out and showed their capacity to stand strong vs top opposition shows that the team is already moving in the right way.

The Whites from North London will be looking to build on this performance as they prep to face Bristol City in the Women’s League Cup next weekend before returning to WSL duties when they host Aston Villa on 7th December. While the Gunners women will be licking their wounds as pressure continues to build on Renee Slegers following two consecutive draws which put them in a tricky position on the table.

With Tottenham women showing how it’s done, now it is to be seen whether the men’s first team take some inspiration from them and put on a similar display when they visit the Emirates Stadium next weekend.
