Real Sociedad great feels €60m will be enough for Tottenham to land Takefusa Kubo in January
Thomas Frank’s need to bolster the wide areas of the pitch has become increasingly evident during Tottenham Hotspur’s mixed start to the 2025/26 campaign. The lack of flair and creativity in the final third has led to growing frustration in and around N17.
Mohammed Kudus has been the only reliable source of creativity for Spurs. However, without James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski in the team, Kudus can only do up to a certain point. Moreover, Tottenham are set to lose the Ghanaian attacker to the AFCON next month, which would potentially leave a big void in attack for the club chiefs to fill.
As per recent reports, the Lilywhites have set their sights on signing Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo. Tottenham have been impressed with the Japanese international’s performances for Real Sociedad in the last two seasons and want to bring him to the Premier League in the winter transfer window. In fact, they are prepared to make an offer close to €60 million for the Real Sociedad star.
Real Sociedad legend thinks €60m offer for Takefusa Kubo could be accepted
Takefusa Kubo has been among the best performers for Real Sociedad since joining from Real Madrid in 2022. The 24-year-old is highly rated in La Liga and beyond thanks to his pace, dribbling skills, unpredictability and vision. Now into his fourth season at San Sebastian, the South Asian trickster is reportedly likely to be tempted to join Tottenham if they come calling in 2026.
Now, Real Sociedad legend Bixio Gorriz feels that €60m bid from Tottenham would be too good turn down, even though the Basque outfit would receive just half of that amount.
“There’s no debate here, I mean, if Tottenham pays €60m, it’s a very good offer, and the shame is that we won’t get the full amount, but half,” Bixio Gorriz was quoted by COPE Gipuzkoa.
Kubo has a €60m release clause in his contract at Real Sociedad that runs until 2029 (Transfermarkt), with Real Madrid due 50% of any profit. This clause is inserted in the deal when Sociedad signed him for just €7m from Real Madrid in 2022.
Spurs would need to trigger Kubo’s release clause at Sociedad
Sociedad are unlikely to part ways with Kubo in January unless Spurs or any other suitor pay his full €60m release clause, even though they will get half of that fee. So, Tottenham will be required to pay a premium to get his signature.
In Kubo, the north Londoners would get an exciting attacker who can provide plenty of joy to the fans. He has made a name for himself in La Liga thanks to his dribbling, movement on and off the ball, vision and ability to break defensive lines. The Japanese can also operate off the left and deliver the goods in the final third, whilst becoming Tottenham’s next face in the South Asian market after legendary Son Heung-min’s departure in August.
So, Spurs can benefit both sporting wise and financially by landing the Sociedad star when the transfer window commences on January 1.
