Tottenham backed to make loan push for La Liga ace who with the ‘magic dust’

Tottenham backed to sign Rodrygo on loan from Real Madrid in the January transfer window

Since the change in the leadership structure at Tottenham Hotspur earlier this year, ENIC are ready to move slightly from their youth-oriented transfer strategy and go after ready-made stars. As part of the new era the owners are looking to usher in, the north London club want to be competing with elite European clubs to sign the best players in the world.

The Lewis Family have shown their ambition by pumping £100 million fresh capital into Spurs last month as they aim to reach unprecedented heights and implement higher standards at the club under Thomas Frank’s leadership. In fact, the transfer policy at White Hart Lane already shifted in the past summer transfer window, with Tottenham targeting more experienced players.

As per recent reports, a new attacker has been prioritised by the north Londoners and funds are likely to be available in January to boost Thomas Frank’s squad. Real Madrid star Rodrygo continues to be heavily linked with a move to Spurs. The Brazilian has slipped down the pecking order under new boss Xabi Alonso, who has preferred Vinicius Jr, Arda Guler, Jude Bellingham and Franco Mastantuono in attacking roles. A lack of minutes has created real frustration in the player’s camp ahead of next year’s World Cup, prompting them to seek a move in January.

Tottenham could agree loan deal for Rodrygo

Tottenham tried to sign Rodrygo in the summer, but a move did not happen. Spurs were not able to meet the forward’s high valuation, and after so much speculation over his future throughout the summer, the 24-year-old ended up staying at Real Madrid.

Spurs have not given up on the Brazilian star, who is understood to be unhappy at Santiago Bernabeu. The versatile attacker has started in just three of his 13 appearances for Real Madrid this season, bagging just two assists thus far. This lack of game time has put several clubs across the continent on red alert.

Former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson feels Tottenham could agree a loan deal for Rodrygo as he feels Real would not sanction a permanent move in the winter window.

“Well, I think to do it permanently would be almost impossible for all but a couple of sides,” Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider.

“I think the loan situation is different, of course, because there’s a sliding scale as to what people pay. Do they pay a loan fee? Do they pay all his wages? Do they pay a loan fee plus his wages?

“That depends on how much Real Madrid want him out the door, want to see him in a different league and if other people want to take that gamble.

“I think it looks like he’s the sort of player that could interest Spurs on a loan, especially if the purse strings are being loosened by the Lewis family and they want a bit of magic dust into the side. He could be a good player for that.”

Tottenham may look to arrange a loan for Rodrygo

During the 2025 winter window, Tottenham managed to win the race Tel’s signature only after they agreed to pay a loan fee to Bayern Munich. They could take a leaf out of the Tel notebook and try to pay a substantial loan fee to sign Rodrygo from Real in the forthcoming transfer window. Only time will tell whether the Spanish giants agree to such a move, but Rodrygo is expected to push to leave the club if his situation does not improve under Alonso.

Signing a player of Rodrygo’s class, pedigree, experience and winning mentality would represent a massive coup for Tottenham. Capable of operating in multiple attacking roles, the South American ace would sprinkle stardust quality on Frank’s squad and provide them with much-needed cutting edge in the final third. It would also go a long way in enhancing Spurs’ pull in the European transfer market.
