Real Madrid star Rodrygo is keen to play regularly as Tottenham Hotspur eye 2026 transfer
There was a clear shift in Tottenham’s transfer strategy this summer as the Lilywhites focused on signing young, ready-made players with high potential. The North Londoners spent their money wisely, bringing in Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani to strengthen their attack and give Thomas Frank a fair chance of competing with top European clubs.
Spurs brought in established names and it quickly became evident that they were determined to build on last season’s Europa League success. However, apart from Kudus, none of the attackers have consistently stepped up or made a regular impact for the Lilywhites. Frank’s side have struggled for goals, and the ongoing injury crisis at N17 has affected the club’s ability to field a strong attacking line-up.

Even with these challenges, the North Londoners sit fifth in the Premier League and remain unbeaten in the Champions League this season. To maintain this positive start and build on the strong foundation created by Frank’s squad, Spurs need reinforcements in January. They require top-quality additions for the second half of the campaign to help close the gap on their rivals.
Real Madrid ace Rodrygo makes clear admission about his future
Recent reports suggest Tottenham are firmly in the race to sign Real Madrid star Rodrygo. The Brazilian international has fallen down the pecking order under Xabi Alonso, with Vinicius Jr, Arda Guler and Franco Mastantuono all receiving more regular minutes. It now appears likely that the 24-year-old could consider an early exit from the Bernabeu, with Spurs preparing to offer him consistent game time and an opportunity to rejuvenate his career.
Rodrygo has now spoken about his situation at Madrid and revealed what he intends to do in the coming weeks. Speaking after Brazil’s draw with Tunisia, the winger told Fabrizio Romano (via X),
“My place at Real Madrid? There’s not so much I can do… just work hard, every training session. It’s there where I can try to get the confidence from the manager as I have from Ancelotti with Brazil.”
The 24-year-old has no intention of giving up on his future at Real Madrid and has stated that he will continue to work hard to reclaim his place in the starting eleven. He hopes to earn Xabi Alonso’s trust through his performances in training, just as he has done with Carlo Ancelotti in the Brazilian national team.
Tottenham attempted to sign Rodrygo in the summer, but the move failed to materialise after the winger chose to stay and fight for his place in Madrid. In hindsight, it appears he may have made the wrong decision, as he has struggled to secure consistent minutes in La Liga. He has started only three of his 13 appearances this season and has registered just two assists, a sign that he is low on confidence and potentially at risk of losing his spot in Brazil’s World Cup squad.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for the 24-year-old. He clearly has the potential to become a world-class player, but at this stage he simply needs an environment that gives him a fair chance to rediscover his best form before next summer. A move to Tottenham would provide him with the platform to shine on the biggest stage and develop new dimensions to his game under Thomas Frank.
Will the Lilywhites sign the Brazilian ace? Or is he just another name that continues to get linked with Spurs? Only time will tell.
