Tottenham Hotspur need to tie Micky van de Ven down to a long-term contract

Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven has made significant strides under Thomas Frank this season. The Dutchman has consistently showcased his true abilities, contributing impressively at both ends of the pitch. He has formed a strong partnership with Cristian Romero at the back, helping Spurs record eight clean sheets in all competitions so far.

The 24-year-old’s rise in the Premier League continues after securing his place in the club’s history last season. Van de Ven’s crucial goal-line clearance in the Europa League final played a major role in ending Tottenham’s long trophy drought. No fan will forget his heroics on that day, and since then, the talented centre-back has continued to build on that momentum.

He has also emerged as a key figure in the dressing room, leading Frank to include him in the club’s leadership group this season. To the surprise of many, he is also Spurs’ top scorer in all competitions, already netting six goals. His remarkable solo run and finish against FC Copenhagen was one of the standout moments of the campaign, showcasing his rare blend of speed, strength, and composure despite playing in defence.

Micky van de Ven is taking the right steps at Tottenham

Given his performances, it is no surprise that Micky van de Ven is attracting interest from several major clubs ahead of the next transfer window. The Dutchman has delivered consistently this season, proving himself to be one of the best in Europe in his position. It is clear why Liverpool and Real Madrid are both prepared to pursue him aggressively, viewing him as one of the most exciting defensive talents in world football.

Michael Dawson has now heaped praise on Van de Ven, stating that he is one of the best centre-backs in the world at the moment. Speaking to BetMGM (via Goal), Dawson said,

“For me, Micky van de Ven is one of the best centre-backs in the world, not just the Premier League. I honestly believe that. I’m a huge, huge fan and I think he’s got everything. There aren’t many centre backs around that have the pace he does but also are able to read the game in the way he does.”

The ex-Spurs player added,

“Without a shadow of a doubt he’s a future Tottenham captain. He’s got all the attributes to be a leader and I’m sure the reason he was tied down to a long-term contract was with that in mind.”

Dawson believes Micky van de Ven has everything that it takes to be a world-class defender, admitting that the Dutchman has a unique skillset of having explosive pace and a distinct ability to read the game well. The ex-Spurs player also claims that the 24-year-old is a future Tottenham captain in the making due to his leadership skills and his growing prominence in the dressing room.

Van de Ven has already captained the team multiple times this season in Romero’s absence, and he has handled the responsibility impressively. Attention will now turn to Tottenham as they aim to secure his future with a new contract in the coming months, rewarding him for his outstanding performances. The club must act quickly, as several top sides are closely monitoring his situation at N17.
