PSG handed surprise boost as key star nears return just in time for Tottenham game

Tottenham Hotspur had a difficult outing against the Gunners at the weekend. We saw Mikel Arteta’s side grab a 4-1 win against the Lilywhites at the weekend.

And while that is already difficult for Spurs faithful, things are about to get trickier as Thomas Frank‘s men prepare to board that flight to France, where they are scheduled to face Luis Enrique’s European champions, PSG, this midweek.

Ousmane Dembele to make it in time for Tottenham game?

But to make things worse, ahead of that game against Paris Saint-Germain, their key cog, Ousmane Dembele, who looked like he was going to be sitting out this midweek game against the Lilywhites with injury, is said to be ready to return in time for Wednesday’s kickoff.

The Ballon d’Or winner had been a major doubt coming into the game. He had picked up a calf injury against Bayern Munich earlier this month. And that injury was just weeks after he came back from a hamstring injury. And that forced him to be on the treatment table for their last two games. There were reasonable worries that he was set to miss the game against Tottenham as well.

But according to the latest report in France from L’Equipe, the 28-year-old is back in training, adding to the worries for Thomas Frank. It is said that he is in the final stages of his rehab, and there may be a late decision taken by the staff at PSG on his possible involvement against the North Londoners this Wednesday.

Eberechi Eze silenced Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank in the North London derby.
Frank will have to scratch his head more as Dembele has a chance to face Tottenham.

Given that Tottenham might have to face a PSG side with Dembele, the defensive side of things just got a lot more difficult for Thomas Frank & Co.

This game was always going to be a tricky test for the Dane head coach with or without Dembele. And it is just ill-timed that the Frenchman is scheduled to return in time for kickoff.

But Frank cannot stay in this defensive mindset that we saw against the Gunners; he will need his side to be a bit braver (and in a sense bolder) this midweek. If they end up surrounding in the same way that they did against Arsenal, then the result on the final whistle will be equally similar.
