Tottenham keen to secure UCL hero’s signature in 2026; fitness to decide January priority

Tottenham Hotspur are very keen to land Randal Kolo Muani on a permanent deal

Randal Kolo Muani finally announced himself to Tottenham Hotspur supporters in spectacular fashion, netting twice and providing an assist during Wednesday’s thrilling 5-3 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League.

The 26-year-old French striker arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a season-long loan from PSG during the summer, but patience was required as he struggled to find his rhythm in North London. Nine appearances without a goal had raised concerns about whether Thomas Frank’s gamble would pay off, but his Paris performance suggested the wait may have been worthwhile.

UEFA’s regulations permitted Kolo Muani to face his parent club, and he seized the opportunity with both hands. His clinical finishing and intelligent movement hinted at the quality that persuaded PSG to pay £76.4 million for him in 2023.

Tottenham Hotspur are very keen to land Randal Kolo Muani on a permanent deal.

TEAMtalk insider Dean Jones has revealed that Tottenham would seriously consider negotiating a permanent deal next summer, though complications exist as the loan agreement doesn’t include a purchase option. He stated:

“Tottenham were so happy to sign Kolo Muani, and now we are starting to see his true qualities. They always felt that when he was back to his usual sharp self, they would have one of the best goal scorers in the league, and his finishing in Paris this week was a sign of that.”

Jones continued by outlining Spurs’ long-term thinking. He said:

“They think there is so much more to come from him, and there is still every chance that this could turn out to be a longer-term signing. He’s looking for somewhere to thrive and feel happy, and Spurs need someone they can rely on for goals. This loan spell suited everyone, but I know that Spurs do have an eye on trying to make it permanent if it works out.”

Could Kolo Muani solve Spurs’ striker crisis?

The revelation that Tottenham is considering a permanent move makes sense from multiple perspectives. Dominic Solanke’s injury struggles have exposed the lack of reliable alternatives, while Richarlison’s inconsistency continues to frustrate supporters despite his occasional moments of brilliance.

Kolo Muani represents a different profile entirely. At 26, he’s entering his prime years and possesses the physical attributes to thrive in the Premier League’s demanding environment. His 26 goals and 17 assists across 52 appearances for Frankfurt demonstrated genuine elite potential before PSG’s chaotic structure derailed his development.

Jones suggested that a successful loan spell could reshape Tottenham’s January plans entirely.

“If he stays fit and is in form, then Spurs won’t have to sign a striker in January and can focus on a wide attacker, as initially planned. With Solanke and Kolo Muani as the main strikers, they could be in good shape. It’s just knowing whether they are going to be out there frequently enough. If Kolo Muani is a success, then it really helps Spurs out, not just for this season, but maybe beyond that too.”

Financial realities could complicate a permanent deal

The major obstacle involves PSG’s negotiating position. Kolo Muani remains under contract until 2028, providing the French giants with substantial leverage when discussions begin. They won’t accept a cut-price deal after investing such significant resources just two years ago.

Tottenham’s recent reluctance to exceed £60million for individual players creates further complications. Chairman Daniel Levy’s departure hasn’t fundamentally altered the club’s conservative spending approach, meaning protracted negotiations seem inevitable.

There’s also the question of competition. If Kolo Muani maintains his Wednesday night form throughout the season, other clubs will inevitably circle. Champions League regulars with deeper pockets could easily outbid Spurs, particularly if Frank fails to secure European qualification.

However, the opportunity is clear. Kolo Muani needs stability and confidence to rediscover his Frankfurt form, while Tottenham desperately requires a reliable goalscorer. If both parties benefit from the arrangement over the coming months, a permanent transfer makes perfect sense, regardless of the financial hurdles. Wednesday’s performance in Paris might just be the catalyst that transforms this loan into something far more significant.
