Tottenham scout watches FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa in action against OGC Nice, Gabri Veiga could also be on the agenda
Tottenham Hotspur have started scouring the market for reinforcements, trying to arrest their recent slump in form.
A lack of flair and creativity in the final third has haunted Thomas Frank’s side throughout the season. Despite spending close to £180m on new signings in the summer, the Lilywhites have failed to solve key issues in their forward areas. The lack of difference-makers in attack continues to cause significant problems, resulting in poor results.
The recent defeats to Arsenal and PSG should serve as a timely reminder that Tottenham are nowhere equipped to challenge for the Champions League spots this season. With the Lewis family investing £100m capital into the club last month, they must invest wisely if they intend to build on the Europa League success.

Tottenham scout FC Porto vs OGC Nice Europa League fixture
According to Portuguese outlet A Bola (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham had a scout present at the Estadio Da Dragao to watch FC Porto’s 3-0 win over OGC Nice in the Europa League. The player in scouting agenda was Samu Aghehowa, who scored the third goal of the night for FC Porto from the penalty spot.
Samu Aghehowa continues to make waves in the Portuguese league with his goalscoring exploits for FC Porto. Regarded as one of the hottest young strikers in Europe, the Spaniard is already among the primary targets of Tottenham to strengthen their forward line. And a Spurs scout watching Porto’s game against Nice reinforces their interest in the 21-year-old.
However, it was playmaker Gabri Veiga who grabbed the headlines with a brace against Nice. The 23-year-old’s performance was fantastic, impressing the scouts from several clubs present with his movement, finishing, close control and incisiveness. The report (h/t Sport Witness) adds Veiga could also be on the Tottenham scout’s plan, and his latest performance in the Europa League only enhanced his stock.

Tottenham could do with both Aghehowa and Veiga
It is going to be an expensive double affair for the north London club to get deals done for Aghehowa and Veiga. Aghehowa’s buyout clause stands at €100 million, and Porto would be reluctant to lose Veiga at a cheap. In fact, the Portuguese giants are unlikely to entertain offers for two of their valuable assets mid-season, unless Tottenham or any other club are ready to break the bank.
As Spurs are struggling with form at the moment, the key decision-makers in N17 want to back Thomas Frank in the forthcoming transfer window. Spurs reportedly have £100m available to spend on new signings, but considering Frank has several areas in need of addressing, how the Hotspur Way chiefs find a way to provide our gaffer the maximum backing will be interesting to see.
