Tottenham look to bounce back to winning ways as Thomas Bramall prepares to take charge vs. Newcastle United
Tottenham Hotspur travel to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United in a Premier League fixture on Tuesday evening, looking to bounce back to winning ways.
Thomas Bramall, one of the least used officials this season, has been confirmed (via Squawka) as the man in the middle when Spurs take on Newcastle United. And for Tottenham fans, that is a mixed news.
Thomas Bramall has just officiated seven Premier League games this season. The 35-year-old has overseen just three Tottenham matches in his pretty young career, and with two wins and a defeat (for Spurs), it is difficult to predict whether the fans will be happy or sad. Our loyal supporters will hope the man in the middle on Tuesday turns out to be a bright omen for their team struggling royally with form and confidence.

Bramall has refereed Tottenham beating Leeds United 2-1 this season and them winning 1-0 in the FA Cup in 2023/24, sandwiched by a 5-1 Premier League thrashing at the hands of Liverpool last campaign. The Lilywhites, under Ange Postecoglou, had actually taken the lead via Dominic Solanke at Anfield, before Liverpool came back roaring to beat 5-1.
However, the recent memory of Bramall for the north Londoners is a positive one. He was the man in charge for the Leeds vs. Spurs game at Elland Road at the start of October. Mathys Tel had given Tottenham the lead in the 23rd minute, before Noah Okafor equalised for Leeds 11 minutes later. Mohammed Kudus came up with an excellent goal in the 57th minute albeit a deflected strike past goalkeeper Karl Darlow.
What should we expect from Thomas Bramall?
Skipper Cristian Romero is back available after serving a one-game suspension in the 2-1 home defeat to Fulham. The Argentinean’s presence was missed on the pitch, as Fulham rocked Thomas Frank’s side with two early goals before eventually winning the game quite convincingly.

Spurs do not have any immediate suspension concerns, with Joao Palhinha, Kevin Danso and Mohammed Kudus all on three yellow cards. Bramall has shown an average of 3.75 yellow cards this season, yet Palhinha, Danso and Kudus will be walking a disciplinary tightrope for the next five matches if they enter the referee’s notebook against Newcastle.
Thomas Frank is a man under pressure following recent results. Spurs have won just once in their last seven games in all competitions and head to Tyneside on the back of a disappointing 2-1 defeat to London rivals Fulham. Clearly, for a side that is still missing some key players and struggling with confidence, Frank and Co. need a measured performance against Newcastle, who will be on a high after smashing Everton 4-1 in Merseyside last time out. And a calm and controlled man in Bramall could be ideal to officiate a fixture that rarely fails to entertain.
