Thomas Frank’s Tottenham future came under intense scrutiny on Match of the Day following Saturday’s dismal home defeat to Fulham

Thomas Frank’s future at Tottenham could be at risk after disappointing Fulham defeat

Tottenham Hotspur’s alarming home form continued on Saturday as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat against Fulham, leaving Thomas Frank’s future increasingly precarious. Kenny Tete and Harry Wilson struck within six minutes to hand the Cottagers a commanding lead, with Mohammed Kudus’ second-half effort proving insufficient to spark a comeback.

The result extended Tottenham’s woeful record at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium under Frank, with Spurs managing just one home Premier League victory since Frank’s arrival. That dismal statistic has left Spurs languishing in 12th place and facing serious questions about their manager’s suitability for the role.

Frank has faced accusations that Tottenham’s squad lack respect for his authority, with their limp performance against the Cottagers doing nothing to dispel those concerns. The issue dominated discussion on Match of the Day on Saturday evening, with pundits dissecting whether the former Brentford boss can survive much longer.

Match of the Day presenter Gabby Logan raised the mounting pressure Frank faces following another humiliating home defeat. She stated (h/t Tottenham News):

“Thomas Frank now is obviously going to feel some kind of pressure with the fans not happy, letting their disquiet known, having won only once at home at the beginning of this season, three times this calendar year as well.”

Former Spurs midfielder Danny Murphy didn’t hold back in his assessment, insisting Frank must accept responsibility for the shambles unfolding under his watch.

“Well, he’s got to take the stick, he’s taken a high-profile job at a huge football club with massive expectation. So, there’s pressure and responsibility that comes with that. The performances at home have been poor and they’ve got to improve quickly.”

Murphy continued by highlighting fundamental issues plaguing Frank’s management.

“They’ve got a hell of a good squad. Yeah, he’s got a few players missing but at the moment I don’t think he knows his best team and he’s not sure on his best formation. And that’s a problem. And the confidence is really low. They’ve got to keep working hard, they had a good go second half and made some chances. But for now he’s got to ride the criticism, he’s got to keep working on the training pitch, and getting that team winning some game at home.”

Sack race heating up

While Tottenham’s situation appears dire, Tottenham News has reported that Frank isn’t yet the bookmakers’ favorite to become the next Premier League manager sacked. Leeds United boss Daniel Farke leads that unwanted race, with odds as short as 1/2 with some bookmakers.

Frank’s position isn’t much more secure, however, with odds as low as 7/2 available on him departing next. Liverpool’s under-fire manager Arne Slot sits at 5/2, while Burnley’s Scott Parker represents a 10/1 outsider.

Murphy’s observation that Frank doesn’t know his best team or formation cuts to the heart of the problem. Four months into his tenure, the lack of tactical clarity or consistent team selection suggests a manager struggling to impose his vision on a talented but underperforming squad.

Tottenham visit Newcastle United in midweek before hosting Frank’s former club Brentford on Saturday. That fixture carries enormous significance, with supporters unlikely to tolerate another lifeless home performance against opposition they should be beating comfortably. The pressure is mounting rapidly, and Frank knows the margin for error has evaporated. Unless results improve dramatically, his Tottenham tenure could be reaching its conclusion far sooner than anyone anticipated.
