Tottenham suffer transfer setback as potential January move for Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic is ‘off the table’

Date:

Tottenham are aiming to bring in attacking reinforcements in the upcoming January transfer window.

Tottenham’s attacking struggles continue to hinder the club’s progress under Thomas Frank this season. The Lilywhites remain among the top scorers in the Premier League, but most of their goals have come from defenders or midfielders. The centre-forwards are having minimal impact, raising concerns among supporters as we approach the festive period.

Micky van de Ven, a centre-back by trade, is the club’s top scorer this season. While it is impressive for the Dutchman, it highlights a glaring issue within the squad and puts Thomas Frank under scrutiny. Despite spending £180m on attacking reinforcements in the summer, Spurs are still struggling to create chances for their number nine.

Richarlison has rediscovered some form in recent matches, but the Brazilian remains extremely inconsistent for large parts of the campaign. If the North Londoners are serious about taking the next step under Thomas Frank and closing the gap on their rivals, the 28-year-old cannot be the long-term starting striker for the club.

It is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to add more firepower up front, especially with Richarlison’s future uncertain at N17. The Brazilian has been linked with a potential return to Everton in January as he seeks regular playing time to keep his World Cup hopes alive. With the transfer window approaching, there is a strong possibility he could move on in the coming weeks.

Recent reports suggest Spurs had identified Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic as a potential replacement for Richarlison in the January transfer window. With the Serbian international’s contract at the Old Lady expiring in the summer, Tottenham were hopeful of securing him on a cut-price deal. Some reports even claimed that the 25-year-old could be available for as little as €20m in the winter.

There is now a major twist in the transfer saga involving the prolific striker. According to Ekrem Konur (via X), Spurs and several other clubs have cooled their interest in Vlahovic following an injury he suffered against Cagliari last weekend. The journalist reports that a January move is now off the table for the Serbian, adding that he could instead sign a contract extension with Juventus.

A blessing in disguise for Tottenham?

Tottenham may be dodging a bullet by not pursuing Dusan Vlahovic in January. Like Richarlison, the Serbian forward is highly inconsistent in front of goal. He lacks the qualities needed to lead the line for a Premier League club, and it is fair to question whether he would ever fully adapt to the demands of English football. His inability to score regularly is something Spurs cannot afford at this stage.

Instead, it may be wiser for the North Londoners to stick with Randal Kolo Muani and give him more opportunities under Thomas Frank. The Frenchman has performed well in recent matches and is expected to improve as the season progresses. Spurs have been closely monitoring his development, with reports claiming they could open talks with PSG over a permanent deal for the 25-year-old in the coming months.
