Tottenham’s Champions League game against Slavia Prague just got special upgrade thanks to Son Heung-min

Date:

Club legend Son Heung-min is set to return to Tottenham to watch Champions League fixture with Slavia Prague on December 9.

Tottenham Hotspur showed great spirit and character to come back twice to draw 2-2 with Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Tuesday evening.

The draw at Newcastle United ended a sequence of three defeats for Spurs, providing some relief for under-pressure Thomas Frank. Cristian Romero stole the show, scoring an incredible overhead kick in the 95th-minute to level the score after making it 1-1 with a bullet header. The way Spurs responded to setbacks in the game and emerged with a point was the biggest takeaway, even though Thomas Frank would not have been extremely pleased with the overall performance. But, at least, there were positives to take to the next game.

After Thomas Frank faces his former side Brentford on Saturday, Tottenham welcome Slavia Prague at home in the Champions League next week. And the game will see a familiar former star return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Son Heung-min returns to Tottenham in surprise announcement

Tottenham have confirmed that club legend Son Heung-min is set to return to North London to watch next week’s Champions League fixture against Slavia Prague. The former skipper will now get the chance to say a proper goodbye to his loyal fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on December 9.

An emotional Son Heung-min announced his departure from Spurs during the club’s pre-season tour of Asia in front of his hometown fans at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, before taking to the pitch for a final time in the pre-season clash against Newcastle. That was the last time the fans saw the 33-year-old, who moved to Los Angeles FC in the MLS in August after 173 goals and 101 assists in 454 appearances in a Spurs shirt.

The South Korean superstar will address the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium faithful for the first time since the summer when he takes to the pitch before kick-off of the Tottenham vs. Slavia Prague game.

The club has also confirmed that a mural of Son will be made on Tottenham High Road. The work has now commenced and it will be completed by December 9 to celebrate the forward’s legacy in north London.

Son also opened up about returning to Tottenham, revealing that it was important to him that he had the chance to address the fans in person, after he announced his departure in South Korea and not in front of the fans who watched him dazzle on the pitch for 10 long years.

“When I announced my difficult decision to leave Spurs in the summer, it was in Korea and I never got a proper chance to say goodbye to fans at the stadium,” Son said in his message ahead of the reunion.

“Now I am so happy because I am going to come back to London on 9th December, for the Champions League match, and be able to tell the Spurs fans in person just how much their support and love over 10 years has meant to me and my family.

“It will be emotional, but it is important for me and the Club that this happens.”

The Tottenham players will be looking to cap off what will be a very emotional evening for everyone associated with the club in poise and style as they try to beat Slavia Prague and move up the Champions League’s league phase table.
