Son Heung-min confirms emotional return to Tottenham for farewell, sends heartfelt video message

Ex-Tottenham skipper Son Heung-min will return to the club for the Champions League fixture against Slavia Prague to bid goodbye to fans.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League fixture against Slavia Prague next week (December 9) could not come any sooner. This is because the game will see the return of an iconic future to the club.

Former Spurs captain Son Heung-min will return to the club for the first time since leaving to join MLS side Los Angeles FC in August. The South Korean forward, after a decade-long service, will bid farewell to fans during Tottenham’s Champions League fixture against Slavia Prague. The 33-year-old is set to address the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium faithful when he takes to the pitch before kick-off.

An emotional Son Heung-min announced his departure from Spurs during the club’s pre-season tour of Asia in front of his hometown fans at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. The pre-season friendly against Newcastle United was the final time the fans saw Son defend the club’s badge.

He moved to Los Angeles FC in August, ending a career spanning 10 years in north London which yielded 173 goals and 101 assists in 454 appearances. The ultimate high in his Tottenham career came in Bilbao when the Lilywhites beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final in May last season.

Son Heung-min confirms emotional return to Tottenham for farewell

Son has now personally confirmed that he is returning home to say goodbye to our loving fans. In a video message posted by Tottenham on X, the ex-skipper said:

“When I announced my difficult decision to leave Spurs in the summer, it was in Korea and I never got a proper chance to say goodbye to fans at the stadium.

“Now I am so happy because I am going to come back to London on 9th December, for the Champions League match, and be able to tell the Spurs fans in person just how much their support and love over 10 years has meant to me and my family.

“It will be emotional, but it’s important for me and the Club that this happens.”

Tottenham have also commissioned a mural on Tottenham High Road. The work has now started and it will be unveiled during Son’s return to the club to celebrate his legacy and loyalty.

We expect emotional scenes when Son walks out of the tunnel before Tottenham play Slavia Prague in the Champions League. Hopefully, the players turn up and give him a fitting farewell- the least he deserves after being such a wonderful servant for the club.
