Tottenham are hoping to bring in additional attacking reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window.
Tottenham prioritised strengthening their attack in the summer as they looked to build on last season’s Europa League success. The Lilywhites brought in Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, and Randal Kolo Muani to boost their options in the final third and help Thomas Frank close the gap on the club’s rivals this season. However, there remain several issues that the North Londoners were unable to resolve during the summer transfer window.
One of the most pressing concerns was the need for a new striker. Spurs did bring in Randal Kolo Muani on deadline day, but the Frenchman was viewed more as a versatile forward who could play either on the left flank or through the middle. What the Lilywhites failed to secure was a natural, out-and-out goal scorer capable of leading the line effectively under Thomas Frank.

At present, Richarlison and Kolo Muani are the players leading the attack for Spurs this season. And it is fair to say both have experienced mixed spells under Thomas Frank at N17. Richarlison has struggled for consistency, often fading out of games and lacking impact in the final third. Meanwhile, Kolo Muani has found it difficult to maintain fitness, enduring a stop-start campaign so far.
Tottenham not giving up in their chase for Brentford star Igor Thiago
It is no surprise that Tottenham may need to explore further reinforcements in the winter transfer window if they intend to close the gap on their rivals in the second half of the campaign. The Lilywhites want to strengthen their frontline, especially with Richarlison’s future at N17 uncertain as he edges closer to a potential departure in the coming weeks.
Recent reports suggest Spurs are interested in signing Brentford striker Igor Thiago in January. Thomas Frank is a strong admirer of the Brazilian and is eager to reunite with him at N17 after previously managing him for a season at the Gtech Community Stadium. However, the same report claims Keith Andrews is reluctant to lose his main striker midway through the season, especially with the Bees continuing to exceed expectations in the Premier League.
Marc Brus (via CaughtOffside) has now reported that Spurs are looking to sign the player on an initial loan with an option to buy in the summer. But they face competition from Aston Villa and Newcastle United, who are also keen on signing Thiago in January. Unai Emery views him as a potential long-term replacement for Ollie Watkins, while the Magpies simply want to add more depth up front following Yoane Wissa’s injury.
Is Igor Thiago the right fit for Tottenham?
Igor Thiago has taken the Premier League by storm under Keith Andrews this season. The prolific forward is already on 11 goals and is on track to break the long-standing record for most goals scored by a Brazilian in a single Premier League campaign, currently held by Roberto Firmino with 15. He has been clinical in front of goal, showing he can lead the line with authority and consistently trouble opposition defences.
Spurs need a player of Thiago’s profile in their squad. The 24-year-old still has his prime years ahead of him, giving Thomas Frank the opportunity to develop him into one of the league’s most complete strikers in the near future. If he does arrive in January, the Lilywhites will need to ensure he receives sufficient playing time, especially as he hopes to earn a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s World Cup squad.
