Randal Kolo Muani’s impressive GW14 stat shows how he can be a channel player for Tottenham

Randal Kolo Muani featured in Tottenham’s midweek 2-2 draw against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.

There have been a lot of questions raised around Tottenham Hotspur’s offensive sequences this season. They have barely looked flowing when going forward, and that has dragged in a lot of criticism from the supporters.

But it looks like Thomas Frank might be hinting towards a possible solution with Randal Kolo Muani, who is beginning to show that he can be that aggressive channel runner this side desperately needs.

In the recently concluded Premier League gameweek (14), he finds himself in joint fifth for take-ons with his three successful dribbles. He was interestingly on level with Lilywhites teammate Mohammed Kudus alongside other talents from the English top tier.

For a Tottenham team who are struggling to find numbers, these numbers matter. Now let me get this clear: it is not about flair. It is amid talk about the French forward’s ability to carry the ball into wide channels and force back lines to retreat. This gives Thomas Frank an outlet.

We saw how Bergvall was playing more of a false 9 role at times against Newcastle to help Kolo Muani take up those spaces on the inside left flank.

Randal Kolo Muani can retrace his Frankfurt days

We know that Tottenham have major problems in attack, and none of the dribbling stats are going to hide that. But it opens up a possibility. It tells us the potential of where this attack can head into going into the festive schedule of fixtures. It shows that Tottenham do not need a static number nine. And with Kolo Muani playing in that #9 role, he can be the first runner into the channel on the left flank. He can be the forward who drags his team up the pitch like he used to do during his Frankfurt days.

With Kudus also boasting those numbers, it shows that the Dane head coach can use a bit of carries from both of them. It would be a lot like when he used a few of his players during his Brentford days.

How much of an asset do you think Kolo Muani can become from that inside left channel? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
