Emotional Tottenham fans overwhelmed by Heung-Min Son mural – “Needs a statue man”

Tottenham fans are excited to see the Son Heung-min mural as former captain returns to North London to bid goodbye.

Tottenham Hotspur fans were taken aback when Son Heung-min decided to end his N17 career in the summer. He was a staple at Spurs after he arrived from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, becoming an icon and a fan favourite.

The 33-year-old left Tottenham after a decade-long service and joined MLS outfit Los Angeles FC in August. When others arrived and left the club in search of silverware, Son Heung-min stayed loyal to the North London club and lifted the Europa League trophy back in May as his ultimate prize.

Earlier this week, the club announced that the South Korean star will be a guest for their Champions League home fixture against Slavia Prague on December 9, which is the first time the veteran forward will return to North London since his summer exit. In a video released from the club’s official X account, an emotional Son also confirmed that he will be coming back to Tottenham to bid goodbye, having not got a chance to do so in the summer.

Alongside his return, Tottenham also declared that a mural of Son will be made on the streets of N17. Working with the Fan Advisory Board, it has been revealed that work has now commenced on a street mural on Tottenham High Road, to be completed by December 9, to further celebrate the player’s legacy- joining existing artworks of club legends Ledley King and Harry Kane.

In an exclusive info revealed by Spurs Army on X, the work on Son’s mural is already underway ahead of his visit to Tottenham next week. After getting a first view of the ongoing mural construction, Tottenham fans have been buzzing all over social media.

“Saying goodbye … or preparing to say hello again,” one fan wrote on X.

Another one wrote: “Oooo it’s gonna be good.”

A third posted: “Needs a statue man.”

A fourth tweeted: “Great that we always do these when a player is leaving or has already left / retired.”

A fifth added: “He deserves it, he is our legend.”

And a sixth wrote: “Beautiful.”

December 9 will be emotional for Spurs fans

Son’s 10 years at N17 delivered beautiful moments soaked into the fabric of the club.

He scored the first-ever official goal at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April 2019, essayed an instrumental role in the historic run to that season’s Champions League final the same year, and produced one of the Premier League’s most iconic solo goals — the 2020 FIFA Puskás Award-winning dash against Burnley. The South Korean’s biggest moment in a Spurs shirt came in May 2025, when he captained the club to Europa League success in Bilbao.

Indeed, the game against Slavia Prague on December 9 is going to be quite an emotional night for Tottenham fans. Our Sonny returns to bid farewell!
