Danish anger over claims Thomas Frank’s Tottenham job in danger

Although the win over Brentford has eased pressure a bit, Thomas Frank’s job might still be in danger.

Barring the recent win over Brentford, Tottenham Hotspur have had a few underwhelming performances of late. While the North Londoners enjoyed an upbeat start to the campaign, we have suddenly seen them struggling going forward under Thomas Frank. There have also been a section of fans frustrated about the safety-first approach that the Dane head coach has been taking, which saw them surrendering that Arsenal game (in a way).

And as he went back to his drawing board to resolve the attacking sequences, the structure started to crack up a bit. All of this has led to pressure mounting on the former Brentford boss who only joined the Lilywhites in the summer. And there has been talk of Thomas Frank already fighting for his job at Tottenham.

And those headlines have apparently travelled far beyond north London. But in his home country (Denmark), the idea that his position at the helm at Hotspur Way is possibly under threat so early has been met with disbelief.

Glen Riddersholm backs Thomas Frank at Tottenham

Riddersholm angry about claims that Frank’s job is in danger

Former FC Midtjylland boss Glen Riddersholm has come with his studs-up opinion about Frank’s future in his conversation with Viaplay, where he went on to suggest that any suggestions of the Dane head coach’s time at N17 being under threat are “completely ridiculous”. He insisted that the wider picture is being ignored with Frank before praising Frank for doing a fantastic job at Hotspur Way.

Glen Riddersholm, speaking with Viaplay (as relayed by Sport Witness), said:

“I think it is completely ridiculous that Thomas Frank should fear for his job. I think he is doing a fantastic job.

“Everyone who is close to Tottenham and follows it from a distance knows that what he has done so far has been excellent. You can only play with the cards you are dealt, and I think there are obvious shortcomings in the squad he is coaching.”

Is Frank’s job safe at N17 right now?

While the anger in Danish media doesn’t really influence a lot of the opinions in North London, it does give the fans some outside perspective. Frank is still seen as someone who is working within limits to work his philosophies in the current roster at Hotspur Way. But that being said, it doesn’t mean that his place on the touchline at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be shielded in any sense if the results do not follow.

We know that the Premier League is ruthless, and especially so given that he is now at a club that is hungry for silverware after having a taste for it at the end of last season. But among all of this, Riddersholm’s defence is a reminder that context matters, given that Frank is dealing with injuries, an unbalanced squad and the hangover from Postecoglou’s time in North London.
