Tottenham advised to not sack Thomas Frank if they are to rectify past mistakes and bring some stability to the club.
Pressure is increasing on head coach Thomas Frank to improve Tottenham Hotspur’s fortunes. After a promising start to life in N17, the Dane has been struggling to get anything right. Recent results have seen the Lilywhites drop out of the top four places.
Tottenham have looked blunt in attack and pedestrian in possession, especially in front of their own supporters, with flair, invention, excitement and goals at a premium. This has seen Thomas Frank face criticism from fans and pundits alike after multiple performances where the north Londoners have failed to create many goal-scoring opportunities.
Spurs were staring at their fourth consecutive loss in midweek at Newcastle United. Cristian Romero emerged as an unlikely hero, netting a 95th-minute equaliser with an acrobatic overhead kick to salvage a 2-2 draw against Newcastle United.

But the most recent result has brought smiles back on the faces of the Tottenham faithful. Frank’s side earned a dominant 2-0 win over Brentford, their first home win in months.
Tottenham urged to stick with Thomas Frank
Tottenham have made wholesale changes at boardroom level after Daniel Levy stepped down as the executive chairman at the start of September. It was speculated that the departure of Daniel Levy could be linked to the arrival of key new investors. However, the Lewis Family showed they are going nowhere and are committed to the cause by investing £100m capital into the club in October.
After the 2-2 draw with Newcastle, reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Tottenham board is unhappy with recent results and Thomas Frank must quickly turn it around. But, former Everton CEO Keith Wyness thinks Tottenham’s past mistakes will not be rectified if they sack Frank after six months on the job. Despite the recent poor results, he wants the Spurs board to stick with the Dane.
“Well, I was actually sparing a penny for Daniel Levy’s thoughts as he was looking in, you can imagine from the outside right now thinking, listen, they now know what it’s like,” Keith Wyness told on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast.
“And Daniel’s had years of this sort of criticism, but look, this is their first real test of the new ownership and the Lewis family and also the new executive team that’s in place and the new board. This is their first real test and they have got to stick with Thomas Frank. In my opinion, there’s no doubt about it.
“This is not going to be a short-term situation. Again, there are years of some mistakes that have got to be corrected and it does take a while to get things sorted out. Everybody looks short-term at things like, you know, did he get his substitutions right in certain games, etc. but there is a much bigger picture that has to be looked at, and I think Thomas Frank is the right guy to get that resolved.”
Short-termism will not take Tottenham anywhere
Going by Frank’s brilliant work at Brentford for over six years, Tottenham appointed him in the summer. As the Lilywhites have royally underachieved in recent seasons, bar the Europa League success of last season, it was all going to be a long-term project with Frank. He started well by getting some memorable results away from home, but the performance levels and results have left a lot to be desired with in recent weeks.
Of course, there is pressure over the Dane, but sacking him after only hiring six months ago would just not make sense from the club’s new board. The league table is tightly packed, and a sustained run of good form could push Spurs right back into the race for European football. Clearly, Frank requires time and backing to turn it around, as a short-term approach will not take our club anywhere.
