Tottenham star Micky van de Ven might head for new pastures if the club cannot extend his contract at N17.
Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven has been one of the standout performers for the Lilywhites this season. The Dutchman has taken major strides under Thomas Frank, establishing himself as an influential figure in the dressing room at N17. He has developed a strong partnership with Cristian Romero at the back, helping the North Londoners record nine clean sheets in all competitions.
Van de Ven’s influence within the squad has undoubtedly grown, with Frank trusting him to be part of the leadership group this season. The 24-year-old has displayed impressive leadership qualities in Romero’s absence, leading the team out on several occasions whenever the Argentine has been unavailable. It is yet another indication of how highly Frank rates the Dutchman compared to the rest of the squad.

The defender’s brilliant goal against Copenhagen has been one of Tottenham’s standout moments this season. He ran the length of the pitch against the Danish side, skipping past multiple players before calmly finishing from close range. To the surprise of many, he has added a scoring element to his game this season, already netting six goals in all competitions under Frank.
Tottenham might end up losing Micky van de Ven in the near future
Micky van de Ven has arguably been Tottenham’s best player this campaign. The Dutchman has consistently proven to be dependable, playing a key role in helping the Lilywhites push for European qualification. He has already written his name into the club’s history with his heroic goal-line clearance in last season’s Europa League final. And to his credit, he has carried that form into this season as well.
Glenn Hoddle has now shared his verdict on Van de Ven’s future in North London as the 24-year-old attracts interest from top European clubs. Speaking to Capital Football UK, Hoddle said:
“Van de Ven is under still a long contract. They are looking to sign him now him now on a long contract. I don’t think he will sign. But he’s still got three years on his contract. I think they will want to try and keep him because he is a world-class performer and probably the only one that we have who is world-class.”
The legendary former star added:
“When I say world-class, I mean he’d get into any team, he could go into Man City, Liverpool…you name it Barcelona, Paris Saint Germain… everyone would want him because he’s that good.”
As we know, Tottenham are trying to extend Micky van de Ven’s stay at N17 by offering him a new deal. But Hoddle believes the Dutchman will not sign an extension due to his growing status in North London. He insists the 24-year-old is a truly world-class player who could walk into any elite European side. And that, he claims, is exactly what will happen once Van de Ven’s current contract expires in three years.
Recent reports suggest that Spurs’ main priority is to secure Van de Ven’s long-term future at the club. The Dutchman, after watching Romero commit his future to N17, is said to be open to talks as he looks to build his own legacy with the Lilywhites under Thomas Frank. There is no doubt he will go down as one of the best defenders in the club’s modern history if he maintains his current level. Now, the responsibility lies with the club to convince him to remain in the Premier League and continue building on last season’s Europa League triumph.
Will we see Van de Ven create a legacy at Spurs that secures his place in the club’s history books? Only time will tell.
