Tottenham receive positive James Maddison injury update, but it comes with a catch

James Maddison has begun his rehabilitation from ACL injury after being spotted on grass with a Tottenham physio.

Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for the Slavia Praha challenge in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Spurs beat Brentford 2-0 at the weekend, thanks to first-half goals from Richarlison and Xavi Simons. The victory ended Tottenham’s wretched run of form at home in the Premier League and released some pressure off Thomas Frank’s shoulders. It will give the players a lot of confidence ahead of the visit of Slavia Praha.

Tottenham have had their fair share of injuries this season. There have been few players who are yet to kick a ball under Thomas Frank, and one among them is James Maddison.

The creative midfielder suffered a devastating ACL injury in August. It was the pre-season fixture against Newcastle United in Asia, and after spending months on the sidelines with a calf problem that had forced him to miss the Europa League final against Manchester United, the England international came on as a substitute to mark his return from injury. However, James Maddison was not able to stay out for long as he sustained a serious knee injury and had to be stretchered off the pitch.

James Maddison surprisingly spotted in training ahead of Slavia Praha clash

After a thorough check-up, it was then revealed that James Maddison would be out for six to eight months, forcing him to miss the whole campaign. The playmaker has been eyeing a return to action before the end of the season, but it looks unlikely.

On Monday afternoon, the England international was surprisingly spotted in training. Maddison was seen on the grass with a Spurs physio on Monday morning, and ahead of the Slavia Praha fixture, Thomas Frank has now provided a clearer indication of where he is currently in terms of rehab and fitness.

“It’s very early stages. It’s a long-term injury. It’s good to see him out there but it will be a long time before he’s available, Frank was quoted by Football London.

James Maddison has a long way to go to regain full fitness

Tottenham fans’ heartbeats would have raised when they saw Maddison on grass on Monday afternoon. It has supposedly become normal after the gaffer’s latest update on the 29-year-old’s recovery from injury.

The creative midfielder’s rehab from an ACL rupture on his right knee is in the beginning stages, making it clear that patience will be needed before he is back in action. ACL injuries typically come with a nine-month recovery timeline, meaning the Coventry-born star should be there or so in May.

The Tottenham ace would be desperate to get involved in some capacity this season, hoping that would earn a ticket to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for next summer’s World Cup. However, the chances are extremely slim as there is no real timeframe of his return. It is just the start of a long haul for Maddison.
