Tottenham Hotspur player ratings from 3-0 drubbing of Slavia Prague as under-fire star drops 8/10

Tottenham eased past Slavia Prague with a 3-0 hammering of the Czech Republican team.

Tottenham returned to winning ways in the Champions League as Thomas Frank’s men got the better of their Czech opponents earlier today.

It was a brilliant performance as Spurs came out with a 3-0 win in front of home fans. That first goal came as an own goal from a flick by Romero in the near post in the first half. Going into the second half, two penalty goals from Kudus and Simons gave the Lilywhites that breathing room.

Here is our Tottenham Hotspur player ratings vs. Slavia Prague

Guglielmo Vicario (8/10)

The under-fire Vicario had another impressive performance this evening. He was tested from the range at times, much like how Arsenal and PSG did against the Lilywhites. But he came on the better side of it. Made some good stops. More than that, Vicario was also good when it came to being that third man in the first phase. He constantly bisected the centre backs to form that three-man base when building from the back.

Pedro Porro (7/10)

Going forward, he again seemed like himself. The Spaniard was complementing Kudus’ positioning well. And his run in the box gave Tottenham that penalty for the second goal, which Kudus was calm to slot in.

Cristian Romero (6.5/10)

Another game where a few of his involvements at the start look a bit too erratic. But as the game progressed, his involvement started being calmer as he started commanding more of the central zones at the back.

Micky van de Ven (7/10)

The Dutchman was covering Spence in that left channel when he was inverting. He did that really well. Barely giving space to the opponents who are trying to hold the wider zones before putting it in. He was quick to intercept those. That being said, he did pick up an unnecessary yellow card which will have the former Wolfsburg man miss the next Champions League game.

Djed Spence (7.5/10)

The England international was playing more like an inverted full-back till Frank swapped him in the right after Porro was substituted. He was getting into some unusual spaces. Going forward he can go on to trouble a lot of teams if he develops into this role. While there were moments where he could have done better defensively on that left channel, that sense of positioning will come the more he plays this role. He was equally good when playing in that right-back role in the closing minutes of the game.

Palhinha (6.5/10)

Another game where he was at the base of the midfield. But given that his responsibilities in the build-up phase were taken away, he looked more comfortable. He made 6 defensive contributions at the back.

Archie Gray (7/10)

Palhinha’s partner at the base, the Leeds United graduate, is impressing with every minute he plays. His technical presence in the first phase helped Tottenham a lot in possession. He was also covering spaces well as he ran into wide zones to support the full back.

Mohammed Kudus (7.5/10)

The Ghanaian was more of a retainer presence on the pitch. He created one magnificent tap-in chance for Odobert in the first half. In the second half, Kudus was quick to find a goal for himself from the penalty spot.

Xavi Simons (7.5/10)

Carrying a lot of confidence from his impressive game against Brentford, the 22-year-old continued to be his ever-flowy self in the middle of the park. He won a penalty in the second half and scored it, even though the keeper got his gloves on it.

Xavi Simons
Xavi Simons had another impressive game.

Wilson Odobert (4/10)

He continues to show his rawness. The Frenchman was a frustrating presence given that he almost always took the wrong decision when on the ball. He nearly gave away a poor ball when passing in the first phase, which could have been a deadly counter. He was also given a run-in right after Kudus was subbed, but his runs and velocity of performance didn’t make much of a difference.

Richarlison (6/10)

The Brazilian was a chaotic presence in the first half, but his influence went down with the game, which is where Frank decided to sub him off for Muani. He was trying to work the keeper every time he was presented with shooting opportunities; this shows how he is flying with confidence right now.

Substitutes:

Pape Sarr (4.5/10): He looked good off the bench. Playing in that favoured box-to-box role. But he won none of the four duels that he competed in which shows why Frank prefers others to him in that second phase.

Mathys Tel (5.5/10): Playing in that left channel, this was the first appearance for Tel in the Champions League for Tottenham as he was taken up in the squad for Solanke. He did have a couple of good take on opportunities late in the game.

Ben Davies (6/10): Given his role in the roster now, he calmed a few things down. Had a decent outing.

Randal Kolo Muani (6.5/10): Muani had a couple of opportunities where he was flowing. Picking up the ball, driving into that left channel. He did lay-off a fine opportunity to Simons but the Dutchman was fouled for a penalty before he could launch a shot.

Lucas Bergvall (5/10): The Swede had a couple of opportunities to drive himself. But he looked a bit too clumsy at times today.
