Tottenham make big Luka Vuskovic transfer decision after breakout performances

Luka Vuskovic, on loan from Tottenham, is currently plying his trade for Hamburger SV.

Tottenham have some exciting talent in their ranks as the club looks to build a team for the future under Thomas Frank. The likes of Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, and Mikey Moore are all viewed as long-term investments at N17, with the Lilywhites hoping to see them wear the Spurs shirt for many years to come. But there is one player who has been stealing the spotlight for all the right reasons this season: Luka Vuskovic.

The talented teenager joined the North London club for £12m in 2023 but could not feature for Spurs until he turned 18 this year due to Brexit rules. After impressing during his loan spell at KVC Westerlo last season, Vuskovic finally reported to N17 this summer for pre-season. He continued to impress in the pre-season fixtures, and Thomas Frank was keen to keep him for the ongoing campaign.

However, the 18-year-old chose to go out on loan once again, joining HSV Hamburg on a short-term deal. It is fair to say the move has paid off, with Vuskovic winning back-to-back Bundesliga Rookie of the Month awards during his time in Germany this season. His acrobatic finish in Hamburg’s 3-2 victory over Werder Bremen last weekend earned widespread praise and made him the third-highest-rated teenager across Europe’s top five leagues.

Tottenham remain impressed with Luka Vuskovic’s performances this season

Luka Vuskovic’s decision to seek regular game time elsewhere has already paid dividends. He has proven his quality and made a significant impression during his spell at HSV Hamburg. The 18-year-old has shown remarkable maturity and is already one of the first names on Merlin Polzin’s team sheet.

His stunning goal against Werder Bremen captured attention across Europe, reinforcing the belief that he is one of football’s brightest emerging talents. According to Fabrizio Romano (via X), Spurs are delighted with Vuskovic’s performances this season and are closely monitoring his progress. The club view him as a key part of their long-term plans and believe he has everything needed to play a major role for Tottenham in the years ahead.

It comes as no surprise that Spurs are willing to enter contract talks with Vuskovic after watching his outstanding form in the Bundesliga. The Croatian defender has also attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, further highlighting his rising stock following his impressive displays in Germany.

Vuskovic’s current Tottenham contract runs until 2030, so the Lilywhites have no need to consider selling him anytime soon. They see him as a long-term solution to their defensive issues at N17. His meteoric rise in recent months will undoubtedly attract more suitors as the season progresses, so the North Londoners must find a way to offer him a substantial pay rise, keeping the 18-year-old satisfied and signalling to other clubs that he is destined to play a vital role for Spurs in the future.
