Rangers would struggle to reject Tottenham’s midfielder bid in January

Tottenham receive an update from Rangers in their pursuit of midfielder Nico Raskin.

Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to address several glaring issues in the squad once the January transfer window opens.

After a promising start to the 2025/26 campaign, many deficiencies in the squad have come to the fore. One of them is the midfield unit, largely due to Thomas Frank’s preference for using Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palhinha as a double pivot. When Bentancur and Palhinha have started together, Spurs have found it tough to retain possession and dictate the tempo of games.

Even though Thomas Frank has identified this issue and refrained from using them as a pair in recent games, the Lilywhites need a dynamic box-to-box midfielder to create chances from deeper areas. The limited supply from deeper areas leads to a lack of creativity in the final third, often forcing the north Londoners rely on set-plays for goals.

Recent reports suggest Tottenham are targeting a new midfielder in the upcoming January window. The Lilywhites have been interested in signing Rangers midfielder Nico Raskin. And now a latest update on the future of the player has emerged.

Rangers likely to accept Nico Raskin bid

According to a report from Football Insider, Rangers would find it difficult to reject an offer from Spurs for Nico Raskin in the winter transfer window. The Belgian is a key component in Danny Rohl’s side, but the Glasgow giants would be forced to sell him if they receive a substantial bid.

Having emerged as a target in October, Raskin is understood to have impressed the Hotspur Way chiefs with his performances under Danny Rohl. After falling out with former boss Russell Martin and being frozen out of the first-team squad, the 24-year-old has been integrated into the Rangers squad by Rohl. He has started 11 games in all competitions since the German’s appointment as Martin’s replacement.

Although the Gers are reluctant to lose the Belgium midfielder in the midst of the campaign, they could be left with no alternative if Tottenham accelerate their interest by tabling a concrete offer. However, given Raskin has a contract at the Ibrox until the summer of 2028, the club are not under immediate pressure to sell him. That could also provide Rangers with some leverage if the Premier League side come up with an offer, as it would allow them to ask for a higher price than previously anticipated.

Tottenham must table bid for Raskin

With Yves Bissouma likely to be moved on in the winter window following his latest off-field controversy, Raskin could be a strong potential option to replace him in Frank’s roster. The 24-year-old has been a star performer for Rangers since joining from Standard Liege in 2023, growing in stature with every passing season.

A strong distributor of the ball, tenacious in the challenge and energetic, the Belgian could complement Palhinha in the middle of the park. Raskin would also improve the depth of the squad in N17, whilst being an upgrade on the erratic Bissouma. After spending a few years in Scotland, he could be tempted by the opportunity to play in the Premier League and represent a prestigious club like Spurs.

All in all, Spurs must not hesitate to test Rangers’ resolve with a bid for Raskin in the New Year.
