Thomas Frank names three players who are key to his Tottenham project

Thomas Frank reveals names of three players who have been key to Tottenham Hotspur’s recent upturn in form.

Tottenham Hotspur had a November to forget. They managed just one win in six games in all competitions. The Lilywhites lost four games last month, conceding 14 goals. Going forward, Thomas Frank’s side scored 11 times.

The start of December has been positive. Tottenham have won two and drawn one, scoring seven goals and keeping two clean sheets in the process. Thomas Frank has appeared to steady the ship after a rocky November, which led to him being criticised from all corners. The team’s recent 3–0 win over Slavia Praha pushed them up to 11th in the Champions League standings, just a point shy of the top eight.

The Spurs fans have been delighted to watch the team play with more energy, verve and freedom in recent games, especially against Brentford and Slavia Praha. The intent to win games right from the start has been well-documented of late.

The recent upturn in form has been chiefly down to three attackers, such as Richarlison, Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons. Richarlison has been amongst the goals of late, netting four in the past seven games. The Brazilian has been overperforming his xG in the Premier League by +2.60.

Mohammed Kudus has been Spurs’ best attacker so far this season, shouldering the creativity burden in the injury absences of James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski. He has quickly become indispensable to the team, and after blowing cold in some games, the Ghanaian has been back to his best.

Xavi Simons has finally started showing his true worth in a Tottenham shirt, scoring in back-to-back games against Brentford and Slavia Praha, respectively. The Dutchman has also been more direct and decisive in the final third, leading to Spurs becoming more fluid going forward.

When asked about the team scoring more goals of late, Frank said in his press conference:

“I don’t think we have taken the handbrake off. We work with the things. Football is so beautifully simple sometimes but also so complicated. I think a lot about the relationship, the team being a little bit in sync, the right players being sharp and in form. All of that at the same time helps.

“There are three players I would like to mention. Richy is in maybe not his best form ever but a very good place. Also, physically Mo Kudus is, after a great start to the season, a little dip and a minor injury, back in full energy and looking sharp. Xavi is performing at a good top level. Those three together give the offensive part of the game much more.”

Tottenham must continue their winning momentum

Back-to-back wins has given some sort of momentum to Spurs. The performances have been the highlight, with the players showing intent to win right from the outset. As a result, Tottenham would be heading to Nottingham Forest on Sunday with a lot of confidence and high spirits.

In-form attackers Richarlison, Kudus and Simons have to produce their best to help Tottenham beat Nottingham Forest and continue their winning momentum.
