Son Heung-min shares emotional insight into his proudest Tottenham moment

Son Heung-min sheds light on one of the beautiful moments of his Tottenham career in the latest original documentary.

Four months after leaving Tottenham Hotspur, Son Heung-min finally had a chance to bid a proper goodbye to the White Hart Lane faithful last week.

The 33-year-old left the north London club somewhat abruptly in August, ending his decade-long stay in England to join MLS outfit Los Angeles FC. The South Korean international, who was a fan favourite, returned to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during Spurs’ Champions League fixture against Slavia Prague to make an official farewell.

Son Heung-min went on the field before kick-off and addressed the loyal fans, saying he hoped they “don’t forget me” and that “I will be always Spurs and I will be always with you.” The official Son mural was also unveiled on Tottenham High Road, adding the South Asian superstar to the pantheon of Tottenham legends.

Tottenham have released an original documentary honouring Son on their official YouTube channel. The documentary explores everything from his signing, the warmth of his homecoming day, to lifting the Europa League trophy.

Wearing the captain’s armband last season, the forward led the Lilywhites to victory in the UEFA Europa League, ending the club’s 17-year trophy drought. It was the first trophy he had lifted with a club since his professional debut. It was the highest point in Son’s Tottenham career.

In the opening moments of the documentary, Son is seen ecstatic and full of emotions as he finally kisses a silverware donning the Tottenham badge. Opening up on those particular emotional and proud moments, he said:

“I felt like there was always something missing, as a perfect piece, you know. As a kid, when you’re looking for the perfect piece, there was one piece always missing.

Son went on to add:

“It took maybe longer than I expected… but I finally found the last pieces of the puzzle. I think it was right to say it, and I think it was one of the most beautiful moments I ever had.”

Son spent 10 years with Spurs after arriving from the German club Bayer Leverkusen in 2015. He is fifth on the all-time Tottenham scoring list with 173 goals in 454 matches. After giving the best years of his career to the Premier League club, the versatile forward finally managed to lay his icy hands on a trophy.

The raw emotions on Son’s face showed how badly he had dreamt of winning silverware with our club. The night in Bilbao back in May was a moment to savour for everyone associated with our club, especially Sonny.
