Tottenham were keen on bolstering their attack by bringing in Antoine Semenyo in the coming weeks.
Tottenham are looking to add further attacking reinforcements in the winter as the club aims to revive its Premier League campaign. The Lilywhites clearly need to strengthen their options on the left flank if they are to pose a consistent threat in the final third under Thomas Frank. As a result, signing a new left-winger has emerged as a key priority for the North Londoners.
Spurs have been among the clubs monitoring Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo ahead of the January transfer window. The Ghana international has enjoyed an outstanding Premier League campaign, scoring eight goals and registering three assists in just 17 appearances. He has been instrumental on Andoni Iraola’s side, picking up positive results, making a strong impact from the left wing for the Cherries.

Tottenham were eager to sign Semenyo in the summer before the 25-year-old opted to remain at the Vitality Stadium and commit his future to Bournemouth until 2030. However, recent reports suggest that his new contract includes a €65m release clause that can be triggered between January 1 and January 10. This has made a winter move a realistic possibility as the winger considers taking the next step in his career.
The latest update from Fabrizio Romano is that Manchester City are progressing in talks of getting Semenyo signed in the coming days.
Tottenham set to miss out on Antoine Semenyo
The Lilywhites had reportedly attempted to address their left-wing concerns by pushing hard to convince Semenyo to make the move to N17 in the upcoming transfer window. And following Romano’s update, it is clear that Spurs have pulled out.
David Ornstein has since provided a major update on Semenyo’s potential move to Spurs, revealing what he heard about his potential transfer to the North London club. Speaking on NBC Sports, Ornstein said:
“Tottenham Hotspur were very keen, and, I’m led to believe, were prepared to pay a significant salary to Antoine Semenyo, but he politely is focusing on other options.”
Semenyo appears to believe that there are stronger options than Spurs currently competing for his signature. While the Lilywhites were prepared to offer him a substantial pay rise and the opportunity to play regularly under Thomas Frank, the Ghanaian is understood to feel that his future lies elsewhere. He is keen to take his time before making a final decision ahead of the January window.
With a move for Semenyo now unlikely, Spurs may have to turn their attention to alternative targets. Recent reports have linked the club with AS Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche. Tottenham were also interested in the Frenchman during the summer, but the deal failed to materialise, forcing them to explore other options at the time.
Akliouche has been in impressive form for Monaco this season, scoring three goals and providing four assists in 21 appearances across all competitions. A winter move could be on the cards as Spurs push to sign a new left-winger for the second half of the campaign. Whether the North Londoners move quickly to secure the Frenchman’s services remains to be seen.
