Tottenham set to make decision soon on Micky van de Ven before new signings in January

Micky van de Ven has been one of the standout players for Tottenham under Thomas Frank this season.

Tottenham fans are finally seeing the best of Micky van de Ven this season under Thomas Frank’s guidance. The Dutchman has enjoyed a prominent role for the Lilywhites, establishing himself as one of the first names on the team sheet at the North London club. The 24-year-old has made a strong impact at both ends of the pitch, helping Spurs secure positive results in the Premier League and in Europe.

The commanding centre-back has also added a goal-scoring dimension to his game, already netting six goals in all competitions this season. His stunning strike against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League will live long in the memory of the supporters in attendance. Van de Ven carried the ball the length of the pitch before finishing from close range, producing one of the finest goals scored by a defender in Europe this campaign.

The Dutch international has also stepped up impressively in Cristian Romero’s absence, providing leadership at the heart of the defence. His influence on and off the pitch has earned him a place in the leadership group at N17, underlining his growing stature within the squad. When paired together, Romero and Van de Ven have formed a formidable partnership, helping Spurs register ten clean sheets across all competitions this season.

Tottenham keen to retain Micky van de Ven amid transfer links

Recent reports have linked Tottenham star Micky van de Ven with a potential move to Real Madrid in the coming weeks. An injury to Eder Militao has prompted Los Blancos to explore the market for a new centre back for the second half of the campaign. Xabi Alonso is believed to have identified the Dutchman as a possible replacement, with the Spanish giants confident that the 24-year-old would slot straight into their starting eleven at the Bernabeu.

However, Jack Pitt-Brooke has suggested that Spurs are doing everything possible to keep hold of Van de Ven. Writing in his column for The Athletic, Pitt-Brooke said,

“Away from the window, Spurs want to tie Micky van de Ven to a new, improved long-term deal at the club, which, if they could do, would be more important than any new transfer.”

Tottenham are eager to strengthen their squad in the winter as they prepare for the second half of the season. However, Pitt-Brooke reports that the Lilywhites’ priority is to secure Van de Ven on a new long-term contract amid growing interest from Real Madrid. The club are reportedly willing to stretch their wage structure to reflect how highly they value the defender, with Thomas Frank viewing him as a cornerstone of the club’s future.

Securing Van de Ven’s long-term future at N17 is vital if Spurs are serious about closing the gap on their rivals and building on last season’s Europa League triumph. The Dutchman possesses all the attributes required to become a future legend at the club, making his retention a top priority. However, the Lilywhites must also demonstrate ambition in the transfer market and return to winning ways under Thomas Frank if they are to convince the 24-year-old to commit to the long-term project in North London.
