Thomas Frank warns fans about “the most difficult” January Transfer Window

Published:

Tottenham remain keen to back Thomas Frank in January as club wants to close the gap on its rivals this season.

Tottenham need to bring in reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window. The Lilywhites are struggling to produce positive results in the Premier League on a consistent basis, forcing the club to consider changes to the squad midway through the season. The North Londoners have collected 25 points from their opening 18 league matches, ending the year in 11th place.

Thomas Frank’s decision-making has already come under scrutiny during the first half of the campaign, with many supporters questioning the Danish tactician’s ability to lead the team forward. However, the recent result against Crystal Palace offered a glimmer of hope that the players are still fighting hard to keep Frank at the helm as they look to build on last season’s Europa League success.

There is an urgent need to sign new players in the coming weeks if the Lilywhites are to close the gap on their rivals in the second half of the campaign. The Lewis family has reportedly prepared a £150 million “war chest” for the upcoming window as they aim to back Thomas Frank and give the Dane an opportunity to shape his own squad as the season progresses.

Thomas Frank wants Tottenham to buy players for the long term

Tottenham’s Premier League form demands that the club make changes to the squad in the January transfer window. There are clear and glaring issues that need to be addressed quickly if the Lilywhites are to salvage their season and secure European qualification under Thomas Frank. The North Londoners are not restricted financially, and fans will hope the club brings in top-quality players who can make an immediate impact in the second half of the campaign.

Thomas Frank has now urged Spurs to focus on long-term signings, stressing that the Lilywhites must make clever decisions in the market. Speaking in his pre-match press conference (via Football London), Frank said, warning fans about the ‘most difficult window’:

“I think there’s a few things you need to understand. The January window is the most difficult window. So I understand it’s a window. Everyone is super excited, speaking about it. It will not stop after the 31st of January. That’s the way it is. As I said, I can’t highlight enough. We are in the market. We are prepared.”

The Spurs boss added:

“We are working, but I also think it’s super important, as I said before, every decision I take, or I take together with the other guys in terms of decision-making, is for the future of the club. So there’s no reason to sign a player if you don’t think it’s for the future of the club, if it is just helping a little bit the next six months. We need to build something sustainable that can be very strong and powerful. That journey takes time, and that journey needs to take good, clever decisions along the way.”

Frank has admitted that Spurs are set to be active in the market, with the club targeting players who can be considered long-term investments. The Danish tactician is focused on building a sustainable squad for the coming years and wants signings who can play an important role over a prolonged period, rather than short-term additions for the remainder of the campaign.

Earlier last week, Frank suggested that he wanted the Lilywhites to sign experienced players who could help Spurs make tangible progress in the coming months. The Dane made it clear that he is targeting players capable of making an immediate impact at N17, while also playing a major long-term role as the club looks to compete for major honours.
