Tottenham defender Luka Vuskovic has been enjoying a strong season on loan at SV Hamburger in the Bundesliga.
Luka Vuskovic has been viewed as a future defensive lynchpin at Tottenham Hotspur.
Currently on loan at Hamburger SV in Germany, the teenager prodigy’s performances have drawn significant attention from major Bundesliga clubs, including Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, thanks to his impressive performances. He has quickly become indispensable to Hamburger SV side this season as they push for achieving Bundesliga safety under manager Merlin Polzin.
There has been talk of Tottenham recalling Luka Vuskovic from Hamburg in January. The tall central defender, who made a potentially life-saving intervention following an injury to Eintracht Frankfurt right-back Rasmus Kristensen last week, has been a mainstay in Merlin Polzin’s side, racking up two goals in 13 league appearances.
Luka Vuskovic’s father opens up on the future of Tottenham talent
Luka Vuskovic is gaining a lot of traction as a global market asset across several clubs, and his father, Daniel Vuskovic, in an interview with Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti, spoke about his son’s immediate and long-term future. He claims a longer stay in northern Germany is not out of the question.
“Until June, he is definitely at HSV, and after that we will sit down with Tottenham and see what’s best. I am extremely satisfied with how he lives and trains,” Daniel Vuskovic confirmed that Tottenham won’t be recalling his son this winter.
“I would not like him to skip steps and go straight to the English Premier League, which I believe is the strongest in the world. There is still plenty of room for growth. As far as I’m concerned, it wouldn’t be bad if he stayed in Germany.”
Vuskovic’s brother Mario also plays for Hamburg, however, he is currently serving a ban for off-field matters which runs until November 2026. As per Vuskovic Sr., Luka would be keen to remain at the club on another loan next season to fulfil his dream of playing alongside his brother Mario. However, he clarified that the highly-rated teenager has a long-term contract at N17 and Tottenham’s decision on his future will be final.
“A lot is written about Luka. More than anything, he wants to stay at Hamburger SV to play alongside Mario,” he added.
“But that’s not up to him – he is under contract with Tottenham, and everything will be done in agreement with them. So far, everything has been completely fair; Spurs have respected Luka’s opinion.”
Tottenham happy with Vuskovic’s development on loan in Hamburg
Tottenham have no intention to cut short Vuskovic’s loan at Hamburg and are happy with his development. The club bosses want to allow the highly-rated teenager to stay at Hamburg for the entire season to continue his progress.
Indeed, the north Londoners loaned out the Croatian talent to the newly-promoted Hamburg with the idea of him getting regular minutes and gaining experience of playing in one of the major leagues in Europe. And as he has gone from strength-to-strength on loan and established himself as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga this season, it makes absolutely no sense to hamper Vuskovic’s rhythm and development by recalling him in January.
The Croatian international, who has also recently fallen on the radar of Barcelona, is viewed as a long-term investment, and Spurs have no interest in letting him permanently leave in 2026.
