Tottenham are looking to strengthen their backline as well, especially after Cristian Romero’s recent suspensions.
Tottenham Hotspur have been struggling in the Premier League. Thomas Frank’s side is currently placed 13th in the league table. They have conceded 23 goals in the league so far. The North London club is already in search of a new center-back. Their center-back pairing in the form of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven has not been reliable this season, especially because of the former’s suspensions.
Previously, Tottenham were looking to bring back their youth academy defender Luka Vuskovic from loan. The Croatian International is currently playing in the Bundesliga for HSV Hamburg. Regardless of their interest, the 17-year-old has no intentions of returning to London soon. As per Sky Sports’ reports, Spurs are looking for options, including the likes of Alessandro Bastoni. Now, there have been new reports of the young Udinese defender Oumar Solet, who has been on the radar for the club.
Oumar Solet is in high demand in the Premier League
Solet has come through the ranks of the French lower division club Stade Lavallois. Oumar Solet’s brilliant performance in the U-19 team for France led to a move to Lyon in 2018. However, he got his breakthrough season in the Austrian Bundesliga with RB Salzburg in 2020. The French defender won three Austrian Bundesliga titles (2020-21, 2021-22, and 2022-23), in 106 appearances, as well as the 2021-22 Austrian Cup trophy.
As per Teamtalk, Chelsea and Spurs are both battling to acquire the services of the skillful 25-year-old center-back. After his transfer to the Serie A club, he has been impressive and has been on the radar of both the London clubs. Except for Chelsea and Spurs, three more Premier League clubs, Manchester United, West Ham, and now Crystal Palace, have emerged as the contenders to sign the French international.
He has been known for his leadership and technical composure, and his ability to play out from the back makes him a perfect fit for the Blues. These ball-distribution skills are perfectly noted down by Enzo Maresca. Chelsea does not have a defender who can play out from the back, especially given Wesley Fofana’s ongoing fitness issues.
On the other hand, Spurs are looking to add more depth to their backline as Radu Dragusin, who might leave the club, as per the reports. Despite a market value of around £17 million, the report suggests Udinese will ask for a much higher fee. There will be a tug-of-war for the French center-back in January.
