Thomas Frank’s Tottenham have struggled with consistency this season.
Tottenham Hotspur have had a tough time in the Premier League this season. Thomas Frank joined the club as a successor of Ange Postecoglou, who earned the club’s first major trophy in 17 years by winning the Europa League in the 2024/25 season. The Danish manager, since joining, has had a busy transfer window. However, his side has failed to have an impact in the league.
Spurs are not happy with the style of play as their side is lacking attacking creativity. The side has drawn 7 of their games this season, and on New Year’s Day, Frank’s side had a horrible start to the New Year, failing to create any big chances, and the game ended in a 0-0 draw. That drew backlash, with Spurs fans booing their manager and chanting “Boring Boring Tottenham”.
Over that, the side has let go of their last season’s leading goal scorer, Brenan Johnson, on a £35m record fee to Crystal Palace. The winter window has been open, and Frank needs to gear up and make a crucial signing in this window and win games in order to regain the trust of the Spurs fans.
Thomas Frank is not the manager to win silverware at Spurs
Alasdair Gold (via his YouTube) has now highlighted a factor of connecting to the fans:
“Feel like Thomas Frank now has to do more to connect with the supporters as well. But ultimately, if you win games, you win over the fans. It’s as simple as that. Um, but the issue for him right now is that a predecessor did not get it, was not allowed to use the excuses of the injured players or the leeway that that kind of came with and I guess in the interest of fairness, probably Thomas Frank is not also is also not going to be given that understanding either.”
“I suppose Ange Postecoglou did by the club certainly midway through the season, albeit I still believe it was because there wasn’t kind of any um any other candidates they could have brought in at that time. I think he kind of lost that leeway when he decided, well, I’m just going to focus on that one competition. Technically, he did and did. You could argue he took a risk. He gambled and it paid off, not technically in his job, but it did in terms of silverware.”
“I don’t get the impression that Thomas Frank will be given that luxury. He’s not going to be able to say, “Right, lads, sack off the Premier League. Let’s win the Champions League because I’d love to say they’re going to do it, but I think it would be very difficult.”
Frank will be hoping for change of fortunes as the season progresses.
