Tottenham near fourth January deal for 20-year-old who spent first half of season at Stoke

Tottenham academy talent set to join Championship club on loan for the remainder of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur are making some crucial decisions ahead of a busy January transfer window.

Spurs have agreed a fee with Crystal Palace for the sale of Brennan Johnson and his move is now official. Manor Solomon, after a disastrous loan at Villarreal, has agreed to join Fiorentina for the remainder of the campaign. And, Kota Takai has joined Borussia Monchengladbach on a loan deal.

At the start of the New Year, Tottenham recalled academy starlet Jamie Donley from his loan spell at Championship side Stoke City. The attacking midfielder found it extremely difficult to break into Mark Robins’ first XI, and considering his lack of minutes, Spurs decided to cut short his loan spell. The 20-year-old has departed Stoke City, having made six substitute appearances – four in the Championship and two in the Carabao Cup.

Jamie Donley set to join Oxford United on loan for the remainder of the campaign

Stoke did not give Jamie Donley many opportunities to show his talent, and it made no sense for the youngster to keep warming the benches at the Bet365 Stadium. It is important for him to go and play regularly elsewhere, and Tottenham seems to have found a temporary destination for the Northern Irish talent.

According to an exclusive report from Football League World, Donley is set to join Oxford United on loan for the remainder of the season. The final details are yet to be clarified, but the move looks all set to be confirmed within the coming days.

Donley will reunite with fellow Spurs academy teammate Will Lankshear at Oxford United. Despite Oxford United battling against relegation, Lankshear is enjoying a successful loan. The centre-forward scored his fifth goal of the Championship season on Thursday evening albeit in Oxford’s 2-1 loss to Ipswich Town.

That said, Donley and Lankshear, who have played together in the Tottenham Under-21s, will hope to revive their prolific partnership at the Kassam Stadium. Oxford have been struggling for creativity and goals, and Donley will bring both in equal measure- having registered eight goals and 11 assists in 52 appearances for Leyton Orient on loan last season.

With the U’s in the relegation zone, the Northern Ireland international will hope to get regular minutes and help the club stay in the Championship. Hopefully, this loan works out well for the highly talented and versatile Donley.
