Ben Davies has a contract at Tottenham until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Ben Davies made his first start of the season in Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland at home on Sunday.
The veteran defender repaid his boss Thomas Frank’s faith with a strong display, scoring the opener in the first half against Sunderland. It was his first Spurs goal for over two years; however, it wasn’t sufficient to win the game as Brian Brobbey cancelled it out with a left-footed rocket in the 80th minute.
After the game on Sunday, Thomas Frank heaped praise on Ben Davies for his composed display and for bringing leadership to the team. The Wales international is currently the longest-serving player at Tottenham, having arrived at the club from Swansea City back in 2014. He has been a stalwart for the north Londoners, netting 10 goals and assisting 26 times in 361 appearances.
However, the 32-year-old’s contract runs out at the end of the season.

Having entered the final six months of his contract, there are now question marks over Davies’ future at White Hart Lane. French side OGC Nice are rumoured to be interested in the defender, who demonstrated on Sunday that he still has something to offer to the Lilywhites.
After the 1-1 draw with Sunderland, the Welshman spoke out on what his future may hold, giving a rather blunt assessment:
“When you’re in your thirties, you just want to play as much as you can. I got a chance to play, and I did my best. I feel like I did my job,” Davies was quoted by Football London.
“This one [my future] is out of my hands.”
If his dwindling contract wasn’t enough to put uncertainty around his future, then Tottenham’s interest in a young left-back certainly must. The north Londoners are keen on signing Santos left-back Souza in this January transfer window. However, they have seen an £8million bid for Souza rejected by Santos as they do not wish to sell their academy graduate in this window.
It remains to be seen whether Spurs would make another offer for Souza, but the fact that they are looking to sign a new, young left-back this year spells danger for Davies. In Souza, the north Londoners would land a young, dynamic and attacking left-back who can compete and cover for Destiny Udogie, whose injury record in the last two seasons hasn’t been great.
Going by Tottenham’s pursuit of the Santos starlet, it appears to be curtains for Davies’ career in N17. Should Davies depart at the end of the season, it would mark the end of an era for one of Spurs’ most dependable players in the club’s rich history.
