Former Tottenham manager Ryan Mason has parted ways with West Brom after just seven months.
Thomas Frank is under immense pressure at Tottenham Hotspur after an underwhelming first half of the season. The Lilywhites have picked up only 27 points from 20 games and currently find themselves 13th in the table.
The weekend’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland led to the home fans displaying their frustration at full-time whistle with loud boos. A run of just two victories in the last 11 Premier League games has led to scathing scrutiny of Thomas Frank from fans and pundits alike.
Former Tottenham first-team coach Ryan Mason, who is the youngest-ever manager in PL to take charge of a club (at just 29 years of age), came under similar scrutiny at West Bromwich Albion after a poor start to the 2025/26 Championship campaign. West Brom’s form has failed to improve in recent weeks after four losses in their last five games, with Monday’s defeat to Leicester City extending their losing run away from home to 10 games.
West Brom announces the sacking of Ryan Mason
The defeat at Leicester City turned out to be the final nail in Ryan Mason’s job at the Hawthorns. On Tuesday, West Brom officially announced the sacking of Mason. The club has started their due process of hiring a new first-team coach and staff.
The 34-year-old left Tottenham last summer to become West Brom’s first-team coach. He was attracted to the West Brom job and could not turn it down, but after just seven months, the Englishman has parted ways with the Championship club. Despite receiving the public backing of the club’s sporting director, Andrew Nestor, a fortnight ago, Mason has paid the price for a wretched run of form and has left the Baggies 18th in the table – seven points clear of the relegation zone.
The Midlands had started considering a change in the dugout from December, owing to lacklustre performances and poor results. And after the Leicester defeat, the Hawthorns chiefs finally decided to wield the axe on Mason, who only managed to win nine of 26 Championship games.
It is cruel to the young Englishman, but it does not come as a surprise. He failed to find solutions to his team’s problems and lost way too many games as the West Brom boss. Mason’s sacking was inevitable after the Baggies’ run of bad results, and this news would have certainly left the Tottenham fans disappointed.
Mason is a talented coach and has an entire career ahead of him. It will be interesting to see the 34-year-old’s next plans after leaving the West Brom job.
