Tottenham youngster Yang Min-hyeok has completed a loan move to Championship league leaders Coventry City until the end of the season.
Tottenham Hotspur have been active in the opening week of the January transfer window. They are yet to make a new signing, having focused majorly on sending out young talents on loan to different clubs apart from making a major role of Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace.
A fair few academy prospects have been recalled from their loan spells after disappointing first six months at respective clubs and then sent out to temporary spells for the rest of the campaign. Jamie Donley returned from Stoke City and moved to Oxford United last week, while fellow academy talent Alfie Dorrington’s loan at Aberdeen has been cut short.
Tottenham also decided to recall winger Yang Min-hyeok from his season-long loan at Portsmouth- a move that baffled a lot of fans, given the youngster was getting regular minutes and performing well at the club. Well, this was done in favour of an ambitious move to Coventry City.

Yang Min-hyeok opens up on joining Coventry City until the end of the season
Yang Min-hyeok was lighting up the Championship with his dazzling displays for Portsmouth. The South Korean talent notched three goals and one assist in 16 Championship appearances for Pompey. However, he has now headed to Coventry City, who hold a six-point lead at the summit of the Championship.
On joining Coventry City, Yang also revealed the role the manager Frank Lampard played in persuading him and also how he plans to use him in his team.
“The head coach explained very clearly how he plans to use me and how I could fit into the team, which gave me a lot of confidence that this is the right place for me,” Yang told Coventry’s official website.
This is a massive step up for Yang. Having played for a club majorly embroiled in a relegation battle for the opening six months of the season, the 19-year-old will now be representing the Championship league leaders. The expectations and pressure will be entirely different at Coventry, who are bidding to return to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years.
So, this is a big challenge for Yang. Playing with better quality players and in a team with the ambition of winning the league and achieving promotion should serve him well for the rest of the campaign. This valuable experience could go a long way in shaping the South Korean international’s future and help him break into the Tottenham side in the near future.
Hopefully, Yang thrives under Lampard, gets regular minutes to aid his development and helps the Sky Blues get promoted.
