Below Wolves: Shocking stat shows how poor Tottenham have been in the Premier League

Tottenham’s Premier League struggles are not showing any signs of stopping anytime soon

Tottenham have been struggling in the Premier League for a prolonged period now. The Lilywhites have become an easy target for opponents willing to take the game to them and put them on the back foot from the opening whistle. It is increasingly evident that the issues run far deeper than the man in charge, as the North Londoners continue to slide down the pecking order due to their poor league form.

Last season, Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs finished the campaign just one place above the relegation zone in the Premier League. They were fortunate that the three teams below them were also unable to produce consistent results, allowing them to avoid a tense relegation battle. Big Ange’s side suffered 22 league defeats in a 38-game season, underlining just how far they were from competing with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City.

The managerial change in the summer was meant to signal a brighter future for the Lilywhites this season. Thomas Frank was appointed to steady the ship at N17 and guide Spurs back towards the top-end of the Premier League table, building on their Europa League success. However, the Danish tactician has struggled to deliver on those expectations, with his side managing just 27 points from their opening 21 league matches this season.

Different season… same old Tottenham

Tottenham ended 2025 with only four Premier League home wins, highlighting how difficult it has been for the club to secure positive results at their own ground under two different managers. For a team expected to challenge for honours on a regular basis, this statistic alone illustrates how far they have fallen behind their rivals at the top of the table.

There is now another damning statistic that makes grim reading for Spurs supporters. According to the BBC, since the start of last season, only Wolves (36) have recorded more Premier League defeats than the Lilywhites (30, level with West Ham and Southampton). A large proportion of those losses came during Ange Postecoglou’s tenure, particularly as he prioritised the Europa League during the latter stages of last season.

To further emphasise Tottenham’s struggles, Southampton have already been relegated from the top flight, while West Ham currently sit 18th in the Premier League table. Wolves, who have suffered just six more defeats than Spurs, are stuck on seven points this season, placing them among the poorest-performing sides in the league’s history. This is the level at which Tottenham are currently operating as they attempt to close the gap on their rivals under Thomas Frank.

Significant changes appear necessary if Spurs are to secure European qualification this season and get their campaign back on track. A major overhaul is required in the ongoing transfer window as the club looks to build on last season’s Europa League success. A change at the helm may also be unavoidable, with Thomas Frank clearly struggling to get the best out of his players at N17.
