Tottenham’s defensive frailties were exposed as Bournemouth secured a dramatic win in the Premier League clash.
Tottenham suffered a devastating 3-2 defeat at the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday evening. Mathys Tel gave Spurs an early advantage before Evanilson equalized and Eli Junior Kroupi put Bournemouth ahead. João Palhinha’s equalizer looked to have salvaged a point, but Antoine Semenyo’s injury-time winner completed a nightmare evening for Thomas Frank’s side.
The result represents a catastrophic blow to Tottenham’s season. Frank’s men drop to 14th place with 27 points from 21 matches, while Bournemouth sit just behind at 15th place.
We now take a look at how the Spurs stars fared today.
Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings
Guglielmo Vicario (5/10): Endured a difficult evening between the posts. Vicario was beaten by Evanilson’s powerful header for the first equalizer and could do little about Kroupi’s well-taken finish that put Bournemouth ahead. His positioning was questionable on both occasions. Made a couple of routine saves but couldn’t prevent Semenyo’s injury-time winner that condemned Spurs to defeat.
Pedro Porro (5/10): Worked tirelessly down the right flank but struggled defensively as Bournemouth exploited space behind him. Porro was involved in Tel’s opening goal but his defensive frailties were exposed repeatedly by David Brooks and Semenyo. His crossing accuracy dipped in the second half as fatigue set in during a congested fixture schedule.
Cristian Romero (4/10): The Argentine captain had a disastrous evening at the heart of Tottenham’s defense. Romero failed to deal with Evanilson’s physical presence and was caught out of position for Kroupi’s goal that put Bournemouth ahead. His usually reliable passing was sloppy under pressure, contributing to Spurs’ defensive chaos. A performance to forget from the skipper who couldn’t organize his backline.

Micky van de Ven (5/10): Tottenham’s most reliable defender struggled to impose himself against Bournemouth’s energetic attack. Van de Ven made several important interceptions but his pace couldn’t compensate for poor defensive organization around him. Pushed forward when Spurs chased an equalizer after falling behind but left gaps that Bournemouth exploited for the winning goal.
Djed Spence (5/10): Started at left-back but offered little attacking threat going forward. Spence was solid defensively in the first half but faded badly after the break as Bournemouth increased pressure down his flank. His positioning was questionable for Semenyo’s winner as the Bournemouth forward found space at the far post.
Rodrigo Bentancur (5/10): The Uruguayan worked tirelessly in midfield but couldn’t control the tempo against Bournemouth’s energetic press. Bentancur’s passing accuracy was poor throughout, giving away possession in dangerous areas. His defensive positioning left Palhinha exposed at times, contributing to Spurs’ midfield being overrun as Bournemouth took control.
João Palhinha (7/10): Scored Tottenham’s second goal with a well-taken finish in the 78th minute to make it 2-2. Palhinha brought physicality to midfield and won several crucial duels, but even his presence couldn’t stabilize Tottenham’s shaky defense. Worked tirelessly until the final whistle, but lacked support from teammates as Bournemouth snatched victory.
Lucas Bergvall (5/10): Started in the attacking midfield role but struggled to make a consistent impact. Bergvall showed glimpses of quality in the first half but his decision-making in the final third was poor. Isolated for long periods as Bournemouth took control and couldn’t provide the creativity Tottenham needed to maintain their lead.
Mathys Tel (6/10): Gave Tottenham the perfect start with a well-taken fifth-minute goal, finishing calmly after excellent build-up play. Tel showed energy and willingness to press throughout, but his influence waned after Bournemouth equalized. Substituted in the second half as Frank searched for fresh legs to regain control.
Xavi Simons (6/10): Returned from suspension and showed glimpses of quality in the attacking third during the first half. Simons created several half-chances with intelligent movement between the lines, but his final ball lacked precision. Faded in the second half as Bournemouth’s press intensified, unable to help stem the tide as the hosts fought back.
Randal Kolo Muani (5/10): Led the line with commitment but lacked adequate service from midfield throughout the match. Kolo Muani battled hard against Marcos Senesi and James Hill, but clear chances never materialized. His hold-up play was decent when Spurs managed to get forward, though he was substituted after an ineffective display.
Substitutes
Richarlison (5/10): Replaced Kolo Muani and brought fresh energy to Tottenham’s attack. Richarlison battled hard and was involved in the build-up to Palhinha’s equalizer, but couldn’t find space against Bournemouth’s resolute defense as the hosts held on before snatching a late winner.
Wilson Odobert (5/10): Came on for Tel but struggled to impact the game. Odobert’s pace couldn’t unlock Bournemouth’s well-organized backline during the closing stages as Tottenham desperately searched for control before conceding the winner.
Archie Gray (N/A): Introduced late as Tottenham chased the game after falling behind. Had minimal time to influence proceedings before Semenyo’s winner ended any hopes of salvaging a point.
