Tottenham youngster Yang Min-hyeok has joined Coventry City on loan for the remainder of the season.
Recently, Tottenham Hotspur decided to recall Yang Min-hyeok from his Portsmouth loan spell.
The young winger was having a good time out at Portsmouth and had notched three goals and one assist in 16 Championship appearances. So, sections of the Tottenham fans were perplexed as to why the club decided to cut short his loan with Pompey. In reality, it was done in favour of a step up to the Championship league leaders, Coventry City.
Upon joining Coventry City, who hold a six-point lead at the summit of the Championship, Yang Min-hyeok credited their boss Frank Lampard for convincing him to be a part of his exciting project. To achieve promotion to the top-flight after 25 years clear, the South Korean winger is expected to play a big part in Frank Lampard’s side.

Yang Min-hyeok names Tottenham icon Son Heung-min the best player he has played with
Yang Min-hyeok is a player who has been attracting attention as a next-generation attacking asset for South Korean football. He rose to fame at his former club Gangwon FC, catching the eye by recording 12 goals and 6 assists in 38 league matches in his breakout season in J-League 1.
When the teenager made the move to Tottenham in January 2025, comparisons were already made between him and the legendary Son Heung-min. After a decade-long service, Son decided to end his time at Tottenham and join MLS side Los Angeles FC in 2025.
In an interview with Coventry FC, Yang was asked to name the best player he has played with. The young winger answered: “Uh, played with Sonny (Son Heung-min).”
Before leaving Tottenham last August, Son had some tips for Yang. He said:
“I’m very happy to see young players come up and develop in Europe.
“I’m very proud to see Yang fight for a position in the squad.
“As for tips, I’d like to see Yang experience things on the field and not think too much or too hard. Just focus on what’s in front of him.”
Yang was given the K-League’s Young Player of the Year award, along with a place in the K-League Best XI for the 2024 season, when he was plying his trade for Gangwon FC. The South Korean is richly talented, capable of playing in multiple positions across the forward line. Frank Lampard wanted a pacey, direct and unpredictable winger for the second half of the season at Coventry City and has now got in the Tottenham youngster. It will be interesting to see how he uses the teenage prodigy in his system.
A temporary move to Coventry has given Yang a great opportunity to showcase his talent and gain more experience in English football. Interest will be focused on whether this year, Yang will follow Son’s footsteps and become a part of the Tottenham furniture.
